Phil Parkinson praises ‘key player’ Ryan Barnett

Speaking to the Leader, Parkinson has praised the impact of his substitutes from Wrexham’s latest win in League One over Burton Albion.

Ryan Barnett and Elliot Lee were introduced to the fold at half time with the game in the balance at 0-0, whilst Jack Marriott also came on in the second half to score.

The Red Dragons boss has praised the attitude of the players not starting regularly, he stated: “Barney and Elliot are unlucky not to be starting,

“Elliot had the car accident which set him back a little bit, but he’s our joint top-scorer and I am pleased with Barney. He got another assist on Saturday and has got more assists than anyone else in the division which is a great stat.

“Barney’s a key player for us and has had a really good season, producing really key moments. Football’s about producing moments of quality when they are needed the most.

“All the lads know at this stage of the season that it’s not about the individuals, it’s about the team more than ever and everybody understands that.”

Parkinson reveals Jack Marriott ‘hasn’t moaned at all’

Parkinson’s substitutions were a key factor in grabbing the three points over Burton as he identified the changes needed early on in the match.

Marriott came on with fresh legs against a weary defence and pounced upon some indecision to slot the ball home and round off a convincing win for the Red Dragons in the end.

Parkinson stated: “Jack has not had as many minutes as he’d probably have liked but he hasn’t moaned at all, he has just got on with it in training. He got a bit longer than he’d had in previous weeks against Burton and scored a goal.”

The whole Wrexham squad will be vital in the final five games of the run in as games will be tight, tense and may need a moment of magic to change the course of them.

Squad depth is a real strength of the club this season and it may just be the difference-maker when it comes to getting over the line and securing Championship football next season.
