Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has praised midfielder Andy Cannon after his performance against Morecambe on Saturday afternoon.
Wrexham’s push for promotion continued on Saturday afternoon with a strong 3-1 win away at Morecambe.
Fans may have had a rather familiar sinking feeling when Morecambe opened the scoring early on.
After all, Wrexham’s away form has been torrid and an early goal felt like a case of ‘here we go again’.
Wrexham battled back though as James McClean levelled it up before Max Melbourne’s red card handed Wrexham the initiative.
Paul Mullin and Steven Fletcher bagged goals to hand Wrexham a 3-1 win, maintaining an automatic promotion spot.
Phil Parkinson on Andy Cannon
Whilst the goalscorers will naturally take most of the plaudits, midfielder Andy Cannon has been earning huge praise.
The 27-year-old turned in a superb midfield display against Morecambe and we have already seen him receive some love from Mullin and Humphrey Ker.
Boss Phil Parkinson has also hailed Cannon whilst speaking to Wrexham’s official YouTube channel.
Parkinson felt that Cannon dictated the game for Wrexham at the Mazuma Stadium, not just with his quality on the ball but also with his ability off it.
Parkinson noted that Cannon won lots of second balls for Wrexham, praising him for a fine all-round showing in the engine room.

“Andy dictated the game for us really well, not just on the ball but without the ball as well,” said Parkinson. “He picked up a lot of seconds for us which was really important in these conditions today,” he added.
Cannon has become an absolutely vital player in the Wrexham midfield and surely one of the first names on the team sheet for Parkinson.
It’s difficult to believe that Cannon’s last league goal came back in November, but he is impacting the game in other ways.
We think that Cannon will play a vital role if Wrexham are to get over the line and win promotion, which would see him return to League One.
Cannon previously excelled at League One level with Rochdale and Portsmouth, so he is no doubt desperate to get back to the third tier once again, with Wrexham moving another step closer on Saturday.
