Phil Parkinson confirms four Wrexham stars ‘playing with knocks’ ahead of Stockport County

Wrexam are back in League One action on Saturday after having a rare, free midweek schedule.

While Wrexham did not line out during the week, promotion rivals Wycombe Wanderers were in action.

Wycombe beat Rotherham United 3-2 to send them back into the automatic promotion places ahead of the Red Dragons.

The Welsh outfit are only behind the Chairboys via goal difference but given star player Richard Kone has now returned, it’s hard to see Wycombe dropping too many points in the next few weeks.

However, as Mike Dodd’s men play five of the current top nine in their final six League One games of 2024/25, a second-place finish is still not out of the question for Wrexham.

In turn, it’s imperative they secure a positive result against Stockport County this weekend.

Four Wrexham players carrying knocks ahead of Stockport County

That may be easier said than done, however, as the club’s old rivals from League Two are also eyeing a place in next season’s Championship.

Stockport are fifth in the division going into the weekend, only six points adrift of the Welsh outfit.

In turn, a tough test is expected when the pair kick-off at 3pm on Saturday and now, ahead of the game, Phil Parkinson has provided a fitness update on his players.

When doing so, he confirmed all of George Dobson, Sebastian Revan, Ollie Rathbone and Ryan Barnett have been playing with knocks, as per Leader Live.

He said: “Kev Mulholland and his staff have been patching the lads up, a few of them in particular like George Dobson, Ollie Rathbone, Ryan Barnett and Sebastian Revan have been playing with knocks.

“We have just got to use this week to get a bit of freshness back in everyone which we will do, and give the lads who have been carrying knocks the chance to get ready for the weekend.”

Phil Parkinson explains Jay Rodriguez problem

Parkinson also discussed Jay Rodriguez, who has not scored in his first 10 appearances for the club.

Wrexham fans have hit out at Rodriguez on multiple occasions since his January move but an explanation for his somewhat subpar displays may now have been provided by his manager.

He said: “Jay has come in and he hasn’t been used to starting games.

“It has been a tough ask for him but his professionalism has got him through it and he will benefit from this week like everybody will.

“It is just good to get on the training ground and have a good week, and start building towards the Stockport game.”

With Wrexham having a full week to prepare for the Stockport meeting, a luxury they haven’t been afforded for some time, we will now hopefully see the best of Rodriguez.
