Wrexham are getting used to having an international break following their return to the Championship.

It gives Phil Parkinson some time for him and his coaching staff to implement new ideas within their squad.

With thirteen new signings, integration and building team spirit will be key, however, that squad depth is already showing its importance after Danny Ward required elbow surgery following an injury sustained against Millwall.

Ollie Rathbone and Jay Rodriguez are longer-term absentees for the Red Dragons but Parkinson has just hinted at when one key player may return to action following the break.

Phil Parkinson hopeful of having a few more Wrexham players available for QPR clash

Speaking to the Leader, Parkinson has welcomed the international break as a chance to get some players on the training ground.

The Wrexham boss mentioned the likes of Callum Doyle and Liberato Cacace as not having a full pre-season and this break gives them the chance to properly prepare for the upcoming challenges.

Parkinson stated: “As a staff, we’ve been saying that we wanted to get to this period and have these two weeks now to work with the lads,

“More the injured boys but Callum Doyle and Libby Cacace, to get some real training in them as well because there’s a lot of people not where they need to be yet but these two weeks will give us a great chance to do that.

“We’ve had some uncharacteristic injuries in terms of picking up little muscle injuries, but it’s because the new players have come in at different stages.”

One player that unexpectedly missed the victory at The Den was club-record signing Nathan Broadhead and Parkinson is hopeful that he will be back for the QPR clash.

Parkinson explained: “None of them are too serious and hopefully by the next game, we’ve got a few more players available.

“We have now got a chance to get the players who have missed training back on the training pitch, and have a good couple of weeks working with everybody, which I am looking forward to.”

Nathan Broadhead yet to make impact for Wrexham

Parkinson revealed a calf issue for Broadhead as the reason behind him not making the squad for the Millwall clash and the forward also withdrew from the latest Wales squad.

It is an issue that Wrexham will hope won’t hamper their new signing after failing to make much of an impression during his two appearances so far.

Broadhead has been labelled an ‘exceptional finisher’, however, hasn’t had the chance to show his prowess in front of goal as of yet.

The Red Dragons will be hoping that given the absence of Josh Windass, Broadhead can really step up and show his quality upon return to action.
