Wrexham took a big step towards their third successive promotion with a vital 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town.

Steven Fletcher scored his fifth winning goal of the season after some great work by Ollie Rathbone in the build up to the goal.

Fletcher claims the goal is a ‘blur’ as he pounced upon Sam Smith’s parried header to secure three points and keep Wrexham to within touching distance of the League One automatic promotion spots.

Fletcher and Jack Marriott came on for Smith and Jay Rodriguez during the game, meaning there was no place in Phil Parkinson’s matchday squad once again for Paul Mullin or Ollie Palmer.

Phil Parkinson revealed stance on Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer partnership in 2022

Whilst Wrexham have won their last four away games in the league, they are without a win at the Racecourse Ground for the same amount of games.

Wrexham fans are not impressed with Jay Rodriguez since his arrival at the club and believe that Palmer or Mullin should be brought back into the side.

Speaking on season 1 episode 12 of the ‘Welcome to Wrexham‘ documentary, Parkinson once explained that he brought the pair to the club for the short term and long term vision.

Parkinson stated: “It is certainly the partnership we envisaged, it has shown a lot of signs that it is going to be a successful one for the club going forward both short and long term.”

Whilst the new signings have brought a freshness and a depth to the Red Dragons squad, it appears that Parkinson still knows the value of having both Palmer and Mullin around for the promotion run in.

Palmer has proven his loyalty to Wrexham in the past

Palmer shared a social media message recently that appeared to show his frustration at not being picked in a matchday squad for almost a month.

However, previous comments from the striker also on season 1 episode 12 of the documentary series has shown that he understands that aims of the club and will do everything he can to help achieve them.

Palmer stated: “Here I’ve already met some great people and they’ve helped me in settling in and I have a laugh with them every single day. They’re a group of lads that all want the same thing you know, a promotion.”

Thee 33-year-old striker had scored three goals in 27 appearances before his exile from the team this season but Parkinson knows he can call upon his reliable forward whenever needed during the all important end of season fixtures.
