Phil Parkinson issues concerning Elliot Lee injury update ahead of Wrexham vs Blackpool clash

Wrexham face off with Blackpool in a League One meeting on Boxing Day, aiming to get back to winning ways.

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Phil Parkinson and his players, who have seen their promotion hopes take a big hit.

Wrexham took on Cambridge United on December 14th and despite playing at home and being clear favorites, a late mistake from Lewis Brunt saw the Red Dragons forced to settle for a point.

Another clash against ‘weaker’ opposition awaited the Welsh outfit this past weekend, traveling to the Memorial Stadium for a meeting with Bristol Rovers.

Wrexham were held to a 1-1 draw vs Bristol Rovers, with another late equaliser costing Parkinson and co.

The Red Dragons now face a Blackpool side who sit 12th in League One but have won three and drawn one of their last five League One outings.

Elliot Lee injury update before Wrexham vs Blackpool

With Blackpool finding form, Wrexham will need to be at their best if they are to end their mini winless run.

However, Parkinson may well be without one of his top performers for the meeting on Thursday afternoon.

Elliot Lee was praised by the Wrexham manager after he opened the scoring in the draw over the weekend.

However, Lee suffered an injury vs Bristol Rovers, being forced off after just 36 minutes and replaced by Paul Mullin.

Now, as per Leader Live, the 57-year-old has provided an update on the midfielder and it’s not looking great ahead of Blackpool.

He said: “Obviously very disappointed for him to come off. He had tightness in his hamstring but I don’t know the extend of it at this stage.”

While Parkinson is yet to put an exact return date in place for Lee, hamstring injuries generally take longer than a week to heal, meaning we are unlikely to see him line out against Blackpool on Boxing Day.

Who will replace Elliot Lee for Wrexham vs Blackpool

Lee has spent the last five league matches plying his trade as a makeshift striker just off Ollie Palmer.

In turn, Parkinson will have to hand a rare start to one of of Mullin, Steven Fletcher or Modou Faal this week.

Wrexham fans turned on Mullin when he came off the bench to replace Lee against Bristol Rovers, so starting him may not be the best option.

However, Parkinson generally prefers a striker duo consisting of one big and one little centre-forward.

And with Fletcher and Faal very similar players to Palmer, we could well see Mullin handed a chance despite his tally of one goal in 19.
