Phil Parkinson now hails ‘on fire’ Wrexham star, it’s not Paul Mullin or Elliot Lee

Wrexham manager, Phil Parkinson has opened up about Andy Cannon following his performances in recent weeks.

In recent weeks it has been a sticky patch of form for Wrexham but the season as a whole has been overly positive.

With Phil Parkinson at the helm, the Reds are promotion contenders. It is It looks like back-to-back promotion is a possibility.

There have been many standout performers this campaign with many players picking up praise from all around. New signing George Evans has performed well and Paul Mullin and Elliot Lee have continued to perform well.

Following the defeat to Burton Albion in the EFL Trophy, the Wrexham boss has picked out one player who he thinks has stood out. It isn’t one of the big names that you may expect.

What has Phil Parkinson said about Andy Cannon?

Cannon has suffered multiple injuries since moving to North Wales. Since signing from Hull City he has performed well in limited appearances. Just 33 games in 12 months summing up the problems he has had.

Speaking with LeaderLive, Parkinson has opened up about the midfielder. On his recent performances, he said: “I thought he took it really well, as he did the other night at Harrogate. Andy is playing really well, I am so pleased with him.

“His passing, football ability, awareness and how quickly he sees a pass is excellent but that end product is so important for a midfield player and he is now chipping in with goals.”

With Lee alongside it, Wrexham have seen plenty of goals coming from the midfield. This has taken the pressure off the front line which has been inconsistent in spells.

It will be something that Parkinson can be very happy about and has made the Reds an even better side this campaign.

What has Jacob Mendy said?

Cannon’s teammate, Jacob Mendy has also added to the praise offered by the Wrexham boss. The Gambian has also been speaking to LeaderLive.

On his fellow Reds man, he said: “Andy is on fire.

“He has been playing really well and I am very happy for him because he needed that.”

The left-back has also had a positive season, as have so many, and compliments coming from him are nice to hear. It is also nice to see players talking well of each other in the public space right now.

Cannon has been in great form this season and to see him getting this level of praise is great and well deserved.
