Phil Parkinson has now shared an update on when star striker Paul Mullin could return from injury.

Wrexham fans were left fearing the worst last week when it was revealed that goal machine Paul Mullin would miss the club’s upcoming pre-season tour of the United States and Canada.

The 29-year-old underwent surgery on a long-term lower back and hamstring issue, leaving everyone associated with the Reds sweating ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

A sense of Deja Vu struck with this injury update as Mullin missed the first eight matches on their return to League Two but the Liverpool-born striker still scored 26 goals in all competitions as Wrexham finished second.

Mullin is vitally important for Phil Parkinson, as without the striker, it’s a concern as to where the goals are coming from.

Luckily, from Parkinson’s latest update on him, his injury issue isn’t as bad as first thought.

Phil Parkinson issues injury update on Paul Mullin

Ahead of their Wrex Coast tour, which sees the Reds take on Bournemouth, Chelsea and MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps, Parkinson would have liked a fully fit squad to choose from.

That is no longer the case with Mullin recovering from his most recent surgery but there is hope that the maximum number of games he’ll miss at the start of the season is three, with the Wrexham boss confident his return will be no later than that.

Speaking to The Leader, Parkinson said: “Mulls is going to be close to maybe missing a couple of games at the start of the season if everything goes well but no more than that.”

“It is a blow but he is a fit lad and doesn’t take long to get back. He will have his own mini pre-season and we will get him back as fit as we can.”

Wrexham may not need to sign a Paul Mullin replacement

Previously, it wasn’t known how long Mullin would be on the sidelines however, Parkinson’s most recent update holds promise of him returning very soon.

It also means that he shouldn’t have to dip into the market for a temporary replacement and he could instead play Ollie Palmer and Steven Fletcher alongside each other, or perhaps use Jack Marriott in that role.

Marriott hasn’t had many opportunities since arriving at the club in January, with the former Derby County forward starting just three times in League Two.

During Mullin’s period of recovery, the 29-year-old may now have a chance to shine in Wrexham’s attack and prove he can still score goals in League One, having won the Golden Boot at Peterborough United previously.
