Phil Parkinson has been a major contributing factor to Wrexham’s huge success in recent years.

Wrexham are gunning for their third successive promotion under Parkinson and head into the League One clash with Bolton hoping to move level on points with Wycombe in second place.

Parkinson recently reached 1000 games in management and guiding the Red Dragons to the Championship may top everything he has achieved in the game.

The boss is expected to replace Andy Cannon with Matty James in the Wrexham predicted line up and Parkinson knows that Bolton will pose a stern test having managed there during his career.

Phil Parkinson made history as Bolton manager

Parkinson spent just over three years at Bolton after being appointed as manager in June 2016, where he managed 157 games for the club.

In 2019, Parkinson left Bolton under ‘unacceptable circumstances’ with the club struggling under a potential takeover.

However, in 2017, Parkinson made history at Bolton by becoming the first club to every achieve promotion whilst under a transfer embargo. He took the club back into the Championship despite the difficulties off the pitch.

In true Parkinson style, Bolton boasted a mean defence that season and a heavy reliance on set pieces and their experience grinding them through matches. A style which is now being replicated at the Racecourse Ground.

Parkinson looking good for another promotion with Wrexham

Having already taken Bolton out of League One, Parkinson is in a strong position to now do the same with his Wrexham side, the Red Dragons have promotion in their own hands.

Whilst there are many twists and turns yet to play out, Wycombe Wanderers are set to be the side standing in the way of Wrexham’s bid for promotion and both sides have tough remaining fixtures.

Wrexham face a lot of the top sides in their next six fixtures whilst it is the reverse for Wycombe as their tough run begins towards the end of the campaign.

Rob McElhenney is confident of promotion and with Parkinson at the helm, fans can be assured that his experience and knowledge of the game will be coming to the fore over the next few months.
