Wrexham continue to push for a place in the Championship with Rob McElhenney seemingly feeling confident of another promotion.

Wrexham are fully focused on the EFL Trophy right now with a huge game against Peterborough United coming on Wednesday night.

Darren Ferguson wants to stop a ‘Hollywood’ final with Wrexham fighting for a spot in the EFL Trophy final at Wembley against Birmingham City.

A trip to Wembley would be another great occasion for Wrexham fans but make no mistake – the priority is still the League One promotion race.

Wrexham beat Mansfield Town 2-1 on Sunday afternoon, cutting the gap to second-placed Wycombe Wanderers to just three points.

Birmingham City appear to be over the hill and far away at the top of the table, leaving Wrexham to focus on second place.

Rob McElhenney on Wrexham promotion hopes

Both Wrexham and Wycombe now have 14 games left to play and the run-in is about to really ramp up.

Wrexham are right on Wycombe’s tail right now and the coming weeks will have plenty of twists and turns.

Wrexham have been through ups and downs in recent weeks, turning the home form around but losing two home League One games in a row.

Wycombe are drawing more games since Matt Bloomfield’s move to Luton Town but have lost just twice in the last 30 games.

This promises to be a major battle for second place and Wrexham can’t afford to overlook the likes of Stockport County too.

The RobRyanRed podcast have now posted the respective run-ins for both Wrexham and Wycombe, asking whether Wrexham fans fancy finishing in the top two or not.

Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney answered in resounding fashion with just one word – ‘yes’.

McElhenney is clearly feeling confident in Wrexham hunting down Wycombe and claiming automatic promotion, a third in a row.

McElhenney watched his beloved Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl and the Hollywood star appears to be confident that he will have more success to celebrate.

How many points Wrexham took in corresponding fixtures

Wrexham’s run in features six homes games and eight away games with Parkinson facing the task of picking up points on the road.

Wycombe’s fixtures are a perfect split of seven at home and seven away, including welcoming Wrexham in March.

If we take Wrexham’s results from the corresponding fixtures earlier in the season, the tally from the coming 14 games would be 31, giving Wrexham 92 points.

That features wins over Rotherham United, Reading, Wycombe, Exeter City, Burton Albion, Wigan Athletic, Bristol Rovers, Blackpool and Lincoln City, draws against Bolton Wanderers, Huddersfield Town, Cambridge United and Charlton Athletic, as well as a defeat to Stockport County.

Wycombe’s results in the corresponding fixtures total 26 points, meaning Wrexham would just pip the Chairboys to promotion.

Of course, every game is different and Wycombe will be looking for better as they prepare to face the four teams to have beaten them this season – Wrexham, Birmingham City, Charlton Athletic and Huddersfield Town.

This race may well go right down to the wire but we can only admire McElhenney’s confidence as the season heads towards its final stretch.
