Wrexham could be one or two matches away from securing promotion to the Championship.

Phil Parkinson has worked wonders for the Red Dragons since his appointment in 2021.

Wrexham ended their 15-year spell in the National League in 2023 by winning the league title on the back of a play-off heartbreak the year prior.

The Welsh outfit then finished second in League Two to secure back-to-back promotions.

In 2024/25, meanwhile, Wrexham could be promoted out of League One as early as Saturday, April 26th.

Wycombe Wanderers are hot on the Reds’ heels in the battle for second but it is the Hollywood club who are in the driver’s seat right now.

Phil Parkinson highlights two ‘inspirational’ Wrexham moments

If Wycombe lose to Leyton Orient and Wrexham beat Charlton this weekend, they will go up.

It will be the first time in history that a team starting in the fifth tier of English football has ever gone back-to-back-to-back.

A key factor in the club still being firmly in contention to secure promotion has been their immense away record in recent months.

Now, ahead of what could be a giant weekend for the club, Parkinson has been discussing some ‘inspirational moments’ that have helped Wrexham improve their away form massively.

He said: “We’d taken 20 points from the last nine so that’s now 23 from 10.

“We spoke about what qualities we’ve shown but within that structure and hard work, there’s been some inspirational moments.

“Max Cleworth at Mansfield, Elliot Lee coming off the bench and scoring at Crawley, so within that people have got to step up to the plate and Jimmy did against Blackpool with a great goal after a fantastic pass from George Dobson.”

Phil Parkinson praises Jay Rodriguez

After James McClean scored for Wrexham versus Blackpool, Ollie Rathbone stepped up to make to 2-0 just minutes later.

Following that goal, Parkinson has opted to praise Jay Rodriguez for the role he played.

He added: “The second one is a great bit of hold-up play from Jay Rodriguez, a lovely set and Ollie’s capped off another great performance from him with the second goal.”

Wrexham fans aren’t keen on Rodriguez and have made their feelings on the striker clear on multiple occasions.

But after his crucial role on Monday, it seems likely he’ll keep his place for the club’s final two matches of the normal 2024/25 season.
