Wrexham secured a huge victory over Stockport County on Saturday, with one player taking painkillers in order to play through an injury.
Wrexham have moved back into the automatic promotion places after Jay Rodriguez scored the only goal of a 1-0 win over Stockport County.
The Red Dragons’ quest for automatic promotion is by no means over yet, however, with Wycombe Wanderers still having a game in hand to play out.
Should the Chairboys win that clash, they will move back ahead of Phil Parkinson’s side via goal difference.
However, Wrexham set a Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds-era record after their win over the Hatters.
And they are once again starting to pick up results at home after a shock slump earlier in 2025.
It was, for the second week in a row, an impressive showing against a promotion rival from the Welsh outfit, and one player deserves immense credit for featuring despite being injured.

George Dobson was injured before Wrexham beat Stockport County
Andy Cannon is injured, leaving Parkinson light of midfield options for the remainder of the season.
James McClean did start on the left of Wrexham’s midfield three recently but struggled.
In turn, it has been left to Ollie Rathbone, Matty James, and George Dobson to step up during a busy, crucial period.
Now, as per Leader Live, Parkinson has revealed that the latter of that trio injured his ankle the week prior against Wycombe.
However, he opted to take painkillers and make himself available for the fixture against Stockport.
Parkinson said: “Dobbo had an ankle injury and then he got whacked on the shin against Wycombe.
“He was in a lot of discomfort leading into the Stockport game and we took it right to 12 o’clock on Saturday for the fitness test.
“Dobbo wanted to play and we felt it wasn’t a risk in terms of the injury getting worse but it was how much discomfort he could play with.
“He took painkillers and got on with it, and only went off with a bit of cramp which we kind of expected, a bit of fatigue in the game because of his lack of training.
“It was a competitive game and Dobbo did brilliantly to get through what he did because, apart from half-an-hour on Thursday, he hadn’t trained practically at all.”

Phil Parkinson speaks on Wrexham preparing for Exeter City
On paper, Wrexham now have a much easier test coming up this weekend when they take on Exeter City.
Exeter are 16th in League One right now, but they are unbeaten in their last five – drawing three and winning two.
On having another full week to prepare for Saturday’s clash, Parkinson added: “The lads had a good week last week on the training pitch, we needed that week to re-energize everybody.
“We’ve now got another free week to prepare for Exeter which I think is important for us.
“It is about preparing the group for this final stretch of the season.”
