Wrexham will travel to Northampton Town in a League One meeting on Saturday afternoon.

Red Dragons fans will no doubt be glad to see the return of league football at their club following a weekend off.

Wrexham’s last two fixtures have both taken place in the EFL Trophy, seeing them beat Bolton Wanderers and Port Vale.

While a place in the semi-final and a potential clash with Birmingham City in the showpiece is something to look forward to, promotion from the third tier remains the priority.

Phil Parkinson and co. will kick off on February 15th sat third in the division and four points adrift of second-place Wycombe Wanderers.

Their recent league form is patchy – winning just two in five – but as Northampton Town are sat 17th, the away outfit are the favourites despite not being amazing when away from the Racecourse Ground this season.

Why Wrexham released Reece Hall-Johnson after signing him from Northampton Town

Wrexham and Northampton don’t have too much history, but one recent transfer did help the former en route to escaping the National League.

Reece Hall-Johnson joined the Welsh side from their upcoming opponents on a free transfer in August 2020.

Hall-Johnson played 70 times for Wrexham in all competitions, scoring an impressive 13 goals despite being a full-back.

However, he was struck down by injury in 2022 and only ended up playing 44 minutes of their National League-winning season in 2022/23.

The now 29-year-old was released at the end of that campaign and Parkinson explained why at the time, as per GOAL.

He said: “Jake wasn’t with us this season and his contract is up so it is time for him to find another club. Reece is the same.

“He has been a good pro around the training ground all season, always conducted himself well, but he wants to go somewhere where he has got more chance of playing. We wish them both all the best.”

What is Reece Hall-Johnson doing now

After being released by Wrexham in 2023, Hall-Johnson secured a free transfer to Barnet on July 4th of that year.

The defender made 36 appearances, scored four goals and assisted one during his debut campaign for the National League team.

His minutes have been very limited in 2024/25, however, not featuring in the league since a clash with Gateshead in September.

Hall-Johnson’s contract runs until 2026, however, so he will hopefully have another year of playing before he may need to look for a new club.
