Paul Mullin will go down in history as a Wrexham legend but things could have turned out very differently for the striker.
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds laid down a marker during their first transfer window as Wrexham owners, securing a huge move for Paul Mullin.
The campaign prior had seen the striker score 32 goals and assist four in 46 League Two matches, firing Cambridge United into League One for the 2021/22 season.
However, Mullin’s contract with Cambridge was up that summer, and given his goalscoring form at the time, he obviously had plenty of suitors.
In the end, it was Wrexham who managed to convince the now 30-year-old to swap League One for the National League and the rest they say, is history.
But things could have gone very differently had Mullin ended up joining one of the other teams who were interested in his services.

Paul Mullin had chance to join Middlesbrough
Back in 2021, Middlesbrough were managed by Neil Warnock and were looking to improve their striker ranks.
Reports at the time, as per Teesside Live, claimed that Boro had looked at Mullin given he was becoming a free agent.
Had Mullin ended up choosing Middlesbrough over Wrexham, he could have been fighting for a place in the Premier League this season.
The Teesiders are battling it out under Michael Carrick and could secure themselves a Championship play-off place come May.
Meanwhile, Mullin has fallen out of favour at Wrexham this season and his future was called into doubt in January.

Paul Mullin Wrexham stats
Mullin was linked with a Wrexham exit in the 2025 winter transfer window as Parkinson opted to bring in two more strikers.
However, he stayed put but his place in the squad remains up in the air going into the latter stages of the season.
He’s been missing through injury in the last three games but it’ll be interesting to see how/if he’s used upon his return.
Despite his woes in 2024/25, however, there’s no doubt Mullin is a Wrexham icon who has carried the club up to the third tier of English football.
| Wrexham appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 164 | 105 | 12 |
He remains under contract until 2027 but given the number of centre-forwards now at the club, his future could be called into question once more over the summer.
