Phil Parkinson is once again coming under the spotlight after his Wrexham side limped to a 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers on Friday.
Wrexham really should be putting the likes of Bristol Rovers away. But in a manner that’s become a little bit too accustomed to Wrexham, they slipped up, allowing Wycombe Wanderers to leapfrog them into 2nd place of the table.
Wrexham drew 1-1 with Bristol Rovers in the end. Matty James’ well-taken goal in the second half rescued a point but Wycombe won away at Bolton Wanderers, with the Dragons now in 3rd place and a point behind the Chairboys.
Up next for Wrexham is a trip to Blackpool on Monday. It’s the first of three final games of the season and Phil Parkinson will surely need three wins from three to secure a third-straight promotion under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
But promotion is always easier said than done.

Phil Parkinson’s promotion verdict after Wrexham 1-1 Bristol Rovers
Needless to say, Wrexham fans weren’t in a good mood after Bristol Rovers came to the Racecourse and left with a point. Not only did Wrexham throw away two points in a game they should really win, on paper anyway, but they never really looked like winning with the Gas eventually leaving with a deserved point.
Speaking to The Athletic after the game, Parkinson gave his verdict on the promotion picture with Wycombe having a really tough run in, with games against all of the play-off teams barring Wrexham, starting with Charlton Athletic on Monday.
Parkinson explained: “We’re still in a great position. There are three games to go and, hopefully, some more twists along the way. You can’t discount anyone. Charlton face Wycombe and they can’t both win. It can all change again, 100 per cent. It’s not over yet. We are in contention and in with a great chance.”

Mike Dodds’ Wycombe Wanderers comments have haunted Wrexham
Wrexham had the upper hand going into Friday. They sat a point above Wycombe and had the much easier game than them. But it’s the Chairboys who are laughing right now.
And it comes after Wycombe boss Mike Dodds said Wrexham had the advantage in the race for 2nd in a ploy that now seems to have come back to haunt Wrexham.
Dodds said: “The advantage is with Wrexham at the moment, I’m not naive to that, but that can swing very very quickly.”
But as Parkinson suggests, it can still all change with three games to go, and Wycombe have three really tough games but so too do Wrexham, who aren’t exactly looking like promotion candidates right now.
The game against Blackpool kicks off at 3pm on Monday.
