It’s not often that the Racecourse Ground goes into complete silence, especially with Wrexham fans having had a lot to cheer about in the last few years.

Wrexham remain in the race for automatic promotion from League One despite their disappointing 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers on Friday afternoon.

Phil Parkinson now finds his side in 3rd place of the League One table and one point behind Wycombe Wanderers in 2nd after they won away at Bolton Wanderers.

Matty James had to scramble a late-ish equaliser for the Dragons as they struggled against Bristol Rovers on the day with several players, and Parkinson, coming under scrutiny.

In particular, Wrexham fans were unimpressed with Jay Rodriguez as they so often are after games. But he isn’t the only one who warranted criticism on the day.

Nonetheless, the buck stops with Parkinson. And to a degree, what happens to Wrexham this season depends on how Wycombe Wanderers do in what is now the final three games of the season.

Wycombe Wanderers goal sends Wrexham fans into complete silence

Both Wrexham and Wycombe kicked off at 3pm on Friday. And many would’ve said that Wycombe had the much tougher game playing away at now 8th placed Bolton Wanderers, whereas the Dragons welcomed a Bristol Rovers side who started the day in 21st, had lost their last six in the league, and whose manager Inigo Calderon wasn’t confident ahead of the Wrexham game.

And as Wrexham trailed, looking for a way back into the game, Wycombe took the lead at Bolton. Inevitably there were hordes of Wrexham fans in the stands at the Racecourse, frantically checking to see whether Wycombe had done them a favour or not. They hadn’t, and when they scored the first of two goals, the Wrexham fans in the stadium quickly fell into a silence.

Wrexham’s remaining fixtures vs Wycombe Wanderers’ remaining fixtures

The tables have turned after Friday’s fixtures. It’s now Wycombe who have the one point lead over 3rd place Wrexham, whose fans are frustrated at how the end of this campaign is now panning out.

And both teams have some really tough fixtures coming up, with Wycombe even playing three of the teams in the play-off places right now, barring Wrexham, who have some tough mid-table ties coming up.

Whoever the opponent is doesn’t really matter right now. Wrexham simply need three wins from three to stand a chance to leapfrogging an in form Wycombe Wanderers side in these final weeks of the season.

Wrexham’s game at Blackpool kicks off at 3pm on Monday.
