Wrexham were dealt yet another injury blow against Harrogate as Arthur Okonkwo was taken off. This could see him miss this weekend’s FA Cup tie vs Yeovil Town.

Last time out, Wrexham were dragged back from 2-0 up to draw 2-2 with Harrogate Town away from home.

It looked as if Phil Parkinson’s side were cruising when goals from Andy Cannon and Elliot Lee opened and doubled the scoring. The win wasn’t to be easy to earn as Town pulled one back before halftime before levelling the game minutes after halftime.

The result wasn’t particularly pleasing for Reds fans but there was another issue which worried the fans further. Mark Howard came on in the game as the number one came off in far-from-ideal circumstances.

What has been said about Arthur Okonkwo?

It has been a superb start to life in North Wales for Arthur Okonkwo who has made the number one spot his own. In his eleven league appearances, he has conceded just ten goals, less than one per game on average.

This season according to Opta and The Wrexham Lowdown on Twitter, he has the best save percentage in the whole of League 2. In the top four divisions, he is behind only Alisson Becker (Liverpool) and Mads Hermansen (Leicester) in that respect.

These stats can be skewed by the number of shots that a goalkeeper faces. Given that Parkinson’s side often dominates games it is less likely to be the case.

With all this being said, the Arsenal loanee has had a positive impact on Wrexham’s season as a whole. The Reds are currently second in the league and are still fighting on the FA Cup and EFL Trophy front.

It appears that they will be without Okonkwo for the upcoming cup fixtures in the next week. Last time out, “Okonkwo had been substituted on the advice of medical staff who felt the player was feeling “dazed”, although he added that he did not believe the injury to be serious,” according to Goal.com.

The non-serious nature will be music to the ears of Wrexham fans who won’t want to be without their keeper. It may also come as a relief that the next two fixtures are in cup competitions and rotation is likely.

It is not an ideal situation for the Englishman but the next week may pose an opportunity to recover. With Howard and Luke McNicholas in deputy, there is plenty of strength in depth.
