Wrexham are yet to secure their promotion from League One amid this incredible 2024/25 season under Phil Parkinson. Despite that, the club still has ambitions well above the third tier.

Wrexham are in 2nd place of the League One table and looking to join Birmingham City in securing automatic promotion to the Championship.

But the Dragons’ season is going right down to the wire with Wycombe Wanderers in 3rd place and only a point behind Phil Parkinson’s side with four games left to play.

Last time out, Wrexham drew 0-0 with Wigan Athletic. And despite only sitting a point ahead of Wycombe, Chairboys boss Mike Dodds says the advantage lies with Wrexham in the race for 2nd.

Up next is a tough match against Bristol Rovers at the Racecourse. A win here would put Wrexham a huge step closer to promotion and towards what would be a massive summer transfer window with yet more transfer records bound to be broken.

As ever, though, Wrexham won’t only smash their transfer record in the summer but likely bring in new players who’ll earn well above what their highest-earning players currently earn. One such player could be Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy who sees his Foxes contract expire this summer, and what happens next remains a mystery.

Leicester City are poised for relegation to the Championship. Wrexham are being linked with Vardy but it remains to be seen whether they can afford a deal and whether or not Vardy would be open to joining; he might yet choose to stay at the King Power Stadium if they offer a new deal.

Weighing in on the situation, Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has told Football League World that wherever Vardy ends up, it’ll be down to money. He said: “Jamie Vardy, do you stay at Leicester? Depends. Depends what the money’s like, depends how he’s going to be used in what would be a Championship campaign next year.

“He’s shown last time he was there just how effective it still was, I think it’s been brutal all round, hasn’t it, for Leicester in the Premier League, with the standard of teams they’ve come across.”

Rio Ferdinand has already backed Jamie Vardy to join Wrexham

Vardy has been mentioned alongside a possible move to Wrexham for some time now, even before this season and before he signed what was a one year extension at Leicester City.

Speaking almost a year ago now, Rio Ferdinand backed Vardy to move to Wrexham at some point in his career, suggesting it would be the ‘Hollywood’ move he needed to finish his blistering career on.

Ferdinand said: “The only club I’d like him to go to now, if he was going to leave, would be Wrexham. It’s got that Hollywood feel and he’s had a bit of a Hollywood career, I think.”

Per Salary Sport, Vardy earns £80,000-a-week at Leicester City whereas the same source states that George Dobson is Wrexham’s highest-earner, pulling in £7,200-a-week.

Wrexham’s game against Bristol Rovers kicks off at 3pm on Friday.
