Wrexham will require a squad overhaul heading into the Championship according to a former star.
The Wrexham owners have planned a meeting with Phil Parkinson in order to discuss summer transfers and plans for the next campaign.
Wrexham’s promotion could earn a £40m revenue boost with matchday income increasing alongside commercial and broadcasting deals.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have shown they are prepared to back Parkinson in the transfer window and former Wrexham midfielder Waynne Phillips believes that has to happen once again.

Waynne Phillips gives Wrexham squad verdict
Speaking to BBC Sport, Phillips has told Parkinson that he will require ‘six to nine’ signings in order to make his Wrexham squad competitive in the second tier.
Phillips stated: “The team that played on Saturday, only three of them were in the Wrexham team at the end of last season, They’ve strengthened every summer, and that’s what I see them doing again. If you stand still you won’t go anywhere.
“There’s a good nucleus there, but they need another six to nine new players. And that’s what I expect to happen.”
The former Red Dragons midfielder has also questioned the future of several first-team stars, including the likes of Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer.
Phillips explained: “It will cost them to get rid of a few. I can’t see Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer at the club next season, James McClean, Steven Fletcher, Jay Rodriguez and Matty James – can they do it in the Championship again? And will they offer enough to make Wrexham competitive?
“I’ve said for a long time that Max Cleworth is good enough for the Championship, so are Dan Scarr, Lewis Brunt and Arthur Okonkwo.”
Wrexham not afraid to move players on
Parkinson’s ruthless actions have seen fan favourites such as Ben Tozer move on in the past and it would be no surprise to see a similar overhaul this summer.
Both Mullin and Palmer have struggled for game time this season along with the likes of George Evans and Jacob Mendy.
| Wrexham’s major departures this season | Club |
| Jon Dadi Bodvarsson | Burton Albion |
| Aaron Hayden | Carlisle United |
| Luke Young | Cheltenham Town |
| Ben Tozer | Forest Green Rovers |
| James Jones | Burton Albion |
| Sam Dalby | Dundee United |
| Jordan Davies | Grimsby Town |
| Antony Forde | Burton Albion |
Football evolution is part of the game but it is a great skill that Parkinson possesses in keeping a healthy dressing room despite changes to personnel.
Wrexham have something precious in football – momentum. It can carry them a long way next season, even if they may be up against some giants of English football.
