Wrexham have racked up another victory, beating Barnsley 1-0 at the STōK Cae Ras thanks to Ollie Rathbone’s late winner.

Wrexham were back in League One action on Tuesday night as Barnsley arrived at the STōK Cae Ras.

Phil Parkinson had guided Wrexham to back-to-back home wins over Exeter City and Lincoln City before a break over the weekend.

Wrexham were pushed all the way from Barnsley and the game seemed to be heading towards a 0-0 draw.

Paul Mullin was praised by Wrexham fans for his cameo off the bench and Barnsley fans were angry at James McClean, but it looked like a point apiece was on the cards.

Ollie Rathbone had other ideas though, popping up with a superb late goal to send the STōK Cae Ras into euphoria.

Phil Parkinson on Callum Buton injury

Wrexham have closed the gap to Wycombe Wanderers to just two points after the Chairboys drew 2-2 at Exeter City.

This was a great night and Rob McElhenney was able to watch Wrexham’s win in style over in Los Angeles.

There were a couple of blots on the copy book though with both James McClean and George Dobson now suspended against Burton Albion after yellow cards.

Then there is the injury for Callum Burton as he went down with a thigh problem in the first half and was quickly substituted.

Arthur Okonkwo is out with a wrist injury so Burton’s own injury means veteran Mark Howard is now stepping up.

Wrexham boss Parkinson has now commented on Burton’s injury whilst speaking on Wrexham’s official YouTube channel.

“It looks like a thigh strain so he’ll go straight for a scan,” said Parkinson.

“We won’t know more until the result of that scan comes in, it will probably be lunchtime tomorrow,” he added.

Mark Howard ready to step up

Wrexham will hope that Burton’s injury isn’t too serious, especially with Okonkwo already out.

Burton has played well in Okonkwo’s absence and Parkinson will certainly miss him if he faces a considerable spell on the sidelines.

Wrexham will also feel comfortable with Howard stepping up though with the veteran stopper equipping himself well against Barnsley.

Howard made one big save in the second half and helped Wrexham pick up yet another clean sheet.

This latest injury blow may also see Liam Hall step up as a substitute with Luke McNicholas – ironically injured too – currently out on loan at Rochdale.
