Danny Ward backed for Wrexham return after Leicester City release
It was announced by Leicester City on Tuesday that Danny Ward has been released after the club were relegated to the Championship.
The goalkeeper has previously spent time at Wrexham, and fans are now tipping Ward for a return to the side via social media.
One fan wrote: “He would be an excellent signing for Wrexham in my opinion.”
A second simply tagged the club’s X account with a question mark: “@Wrexham_AFC?”
Another supporter echoed: “Wrexham??”
“Honking of a Wrexham signing,” a fourth stated when reacting to news of Ward’s release.
A fifth predicted: “Danny Ward to Wrexham, saves our new No.9’s penalty and they win on the first Friday live on Sky.”
And a Leicester fan stated: “Danny Ward to Wrexham, written all over it.”
How did Danny Ward fare at Wrexham
Born in Wrexham, Ward began his career on the books of the Red Dragons and made it into their senior side in 2010.
Long before Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought the club, the shot-stopper was sold to Liverpool in January 2012 for £100,000, as per BBC Sport.
Ward was a Europa League runner-up during his time on Merseyside and has since gone on to win the FA Cup with Leicester.
He struggled somewhat in the most recent season, however, being hooked at half-time in a 4-0 defeat to Newcastle United after conceding three goals.
