Wrexham are gearing up for what is expected to be a busy summer transfer window with plenty of new faces arriving at the Racecourse Ground.

Wrexham will play out their final League One meeting on May 3, facing off with Lincoln City.

The game is of little importance, but could see Paul Mullin given a start for the first time since January 28.

Once the Lincoln fixture is over, attention will swiftly move toward the summer and improving the squad for the Championship.

A few names have already been linked to Wrexham, though a couple of the options touted are pretty odd.

Ben Foster doesn’t think Jamie Vardy will sign for the club despite recent links to the Welsh outfit.

A transfer for Kevin De Bruyne has been mooted, but that seems very unlikely to come to pass.

But it’s still expected to be a productive summer in Wales, and Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have now been sent some transfer advice by a former player.

Wrexham told how many signings they must make

Wayne Phillips has already suggested Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer will leave Wrexham this summer.

And the ex-player questioned if four players can compete in the Championship again, saying: “James McClean, Steven Fletcher, Jay Rodriguez and Matty James – can they do it in the Championship again? And will they offer enough to make Wrexham competitive?”

Meanwhile, Phillips has also sent some transfer advice to his former club, saying how many signings the Red Dragons should be making.

Speaking on the Coridor Ansicrwydd podcast, he said: “The team that played on Saturday, only three of them were in the Wrexham team at the end of last season.

“They’ve strengthened every summer, and that’s what I see them doing again. If you stand still you won’t go anywhere.

“There’s a good nucleus there, but they need another six to nine new players. And that’s what I expect to happen.”

What positions will Wrexham target in the transfer window

Wrexham’s squad size will increase from 22 to 25 now that they are set to play in the Championship.

This could allow more arrivals without as many outgoings as 2024, when a number of players were released.

In terms of key areas to target, another attacking midfielder to compete with Elliot Lee looks like a priority.

Wrexham are interested in Tom Lawrence of Rangers, who is due to be a free agent at the end of June.

As for the rest of the squad, they are already stacked in every position, so it will likely be more about adding high-quality depth.
