Wrexham have enjoyed tremendous success under their current owners but Ryan Reynolds may be dreading another promotion for one hilarious reason.

Hollywood duo Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds took over at Wrexham in February 2021.

After then-manager Dean Keates failed to secure a National League play-off place in the 2020/21 season, the Wrexham owners opted to replace him with Phil Parkinson ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Parkinson saw his side beaten in the play-offs in his debut campaign before winning automatic promotion back into the EFL for the first time in 15 years in 2022/23.

The Red Dragons dominated League Two in their first campaign, finishing second to win back-to-back promotions and a place in League One for the first time in their storied history.

Now, in 2024/25, Wrexham sit second in League One and two points off top spot having played a game more than all the sides around them.

Can Wrexham win promotion from League One in 2024/25

The Tom Brady-owned Birmingham City have one major advantage over Wrexham in the League One promotion race and are likely to take spot spot come the end of the current campaign.

However, Wrexham could still earn promotion to the Championship by finishing second or winning the play-offs next year.

The battle for second place is very much anyone’s game and it is not out of the question for the Welsh outfit to secure it.

Wrexham are currently the highest-scoring side in League One this term and their excellent home record could be key to them earning a place in the second tier next year.

Rob McElhenney comments highlight hilarious reason Ryan Reynolds may not want Wrexham to win promotion

However, a third-straight promotion may not be what Reynolds wants for this hilarious reason.

After being promoted in the previous two campaigns, McElhenney revealed in May that he promised his Wrexham players a trip to Las Vegas.

The club have made the same trip after their previous two promotions but McElhenney claimed in May that Reynolds will say no to the trip but he will force the actor to come despite his ‘dislike’ of Vegas.

McElhenney said: “Vegas again, I just got back from Las Vegas where we did it for the second time and if they get promoted again, I’ve promised them they will be sent to Vegas again.

“Much to the dislike of my co-chairman, so if you see Ryan, I don’t know if Ryan has come by yet; he’s gonna say no, and I’m gonna say yes.”

With another trip to Vegas on the cards, Reynolds may hilariously be hoping deep down that his side does not go up this season.
