Wrexham will face a tough battle trying to beat Birmingham City to the League One title this season.
When Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds took over the club in 2021, they likely did not expect Wrexham to have climbed the EFL ladder so much by this point.
Phil Parkinson was installed into the dugout in 2022 and has now guided Wrexham to back-to-back promotions.
And after beating Wycombe Wanderers 3-2 on the opening day before picking up further impressive wins over the likes of Peterborough United and Reading, the Welsh side looked on course for a third-straight promotion.
The Red Dragons were sat top of League One going into this past weekend’s games, battling it out with the Tom Brady-owned Birmingham City.
However, Birmingham beat Wrexham 3-1 earlier this month and now look to be the League One title favourites.

Why Birmingham City have advantage over Wrexham in League One title race
It has been a rough week or so for Parkinson and his players, failing to win their last two League One fixtures.
Wrexham drew 0-0 with Leyton Orient this past Saturday – a result which allowed Birmingham to overtake them at the summit.
The newly promoted side were expected to get back to winning ways in midweek but after going behind in the 10th minute of the tie, Wrexham lost 1-0 to Stevenage on Tuesday evening.
Brady’s Blues are now five points clear of the Hollywood-owned club and have a game in hand.
One of the keys to Birmingham’s early-season success is the fact that they are just one of three League One sides still yet to lose an away game in 2024/25.
Wrexham must improve their poor away record to stay in League One title race
With Birmingham dropping down from the Championship and paying out record sums over the summer, it was always going to be tough for anyone to beat them to the league title.
However, Wrexham would have had a real chance, and maybe still could, if they improve their currently poor away record.
Wrexham have an excellent home record, shipping just seven goals at the Racecourse Ground in the calendar year.
However, they have now dropped 10 points in just five away games already in 2024/25. This is despite the fact that at least two of those ties were very winable.
The 0-0 draw with Bolton Wanderers looked a good result at the time as well but their form of late suggest Wrexham could have got more out of the game.
Wrexham’s away form could cost them the League One title this season and it is imperative they start earning more positive results on the road.
Their next away fixture comes against Rotherham United on October 19th and is already looking like a must-win.
