Pundit makes ‘neglected’ claim about Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground when ranking League One grounds

Wrexham fans may not agree with talkSPORT pundit Adrian Durham after he gave his verdict on the Racecourse Ground.

Wrexham have a long and storied history at the Racecourse Ground, with it serving as their home ever since the football club was formed in 1864.

The Racecourse Ground’s history dates back as far as 1807 and holds a piece of Welsh footballing history as it was the site of Wales’ first-ever home international football match on March 5th, 1877.

It is the oldest international football venue still in continuous use anywhere in the world and, at present, Wrexham are the sole permanent resident of the Racecourse Ground after they bought the venue back from Wrexham Glyndwr University in June 2022.

Former Wrexham owners Geoff Moss and Ian Roberts sold the Racecourse Ground following the club’s financial difficulties but Hollywood duo Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have now taken full ownership of the ground.

Adrian Durham shares verdict on Wrexham stadium in League One ranking

While fans were no doubt thrilled when the Racecourse was bought back by the club two years ago, they are unlikely to be too pleased with talkSPORT pundit Adrian Durham and his verdict on the ground.

Durham, who has visited all 92 of the current EFL stadiums, has now ranked every stadium in League One.

Peterborough United’s London Road takes top spot, but there is a lot of bias in that pick as Durham is a Posh fan.

Reading’s Madejski Stadium was placed dead bottom of the list while Durham ranked Wrexham’s ground the 13th-best in League One.

He said: “Another one that’s been neglected and they are starting to kind of rebuild it if you like. I think it could be a really special ground when they’ve rebuilt it.

“It used to host Wales games but it couldn’t do that now. So when they finish doing it up, I think the aim is for it to host internationals and that would be something special. It could be really good.”

Wrexham record at the Racecourse Ground is staggering

While the Racecourse may not be in the best shape at present, it has not stopped Phil Parkinson’s side from making it a fortress this season.

The Red Dragons’ away form of late has been questionable, drawing 0-0 with Leyton Orient and losing to Stevenage.

At home, however, Wrexham’s record in 2024/25 is staggering as they are just one of three teams across all of the EFL to have a 100 percent home record in 2024/25.

Blackburn Rovers and AFC Wimbledon are the only other two clubs in the top-four tiers still to have won all their home games this term.

Wrexham face Rotherham United this weekend but have to play that tie away from home.
