The future of Phil Parkinson as Wrexham manager has been under some scrutiny this week after a poor start to their Championship campaign, earning four points from their opening five fixtures.

Phil Parkinson has been given the backing of the club despite the rumours from outside the club suggesting that his job may be under threat unless form picks up soon.

The Wrexham manager addressed these rumours himself, believing he is the man to carry the Red Dragons forward.

Now a rival Championship manager has backed Phil Parkinson despite the Wrexham manager facing scrutiny over his job, believing that he has done an incredible job with the Red Dragons.

Norwich City manager Liam Manning believes Phil Parkinson has done an ‘incredible’ job with Wrexham

Speaking ahead of their fixture with Wrexham, the Norwich City manager spoke about the job that Phil Parkinson has done with the Welsh club.

Speaking with the Pink Un, he expressed just how difficult a job the Wrexham managerial role would be and just how impressive Parkinson has been in what he has achieved.

He said: “The last few years have been exciting to watch.

“(Wrexham manager) Phil Parkinson’s done an incredible job when you look at it – they’re a difficult side. You look at their recruitment and how they’ve invested in the summer, signing so many players who are proven at the level that sometimes you have to kind of look beyond the results a little bit.

“I’m expecting a difficult game, a difficult challenge, but we’re at home. They’re well-organised, physical, hard to play against. I’ve watched numerous games. We’ve done our homework, and I know quite a few of their players as well. We never take any game at this level lightly.”

The Norwich City manager was full of praise not only for Wrexham’s manager but was also impressed by the quality that the club have brought in this summer.

Wrexham made 13 summer signings for a reported fee of £33 million, demonstrating the backing the club have given Parkinson to succeed in the Championship.

He said: “They spent a large amount of money without recouping anything; big outlays when you look at Kieffer Moore, you look at Nathan Broadhead, and Conor Coady. They brought in people who are proven, so that is a clear indicator of what their intent is. They want to push and be successful, and they’re used to having that pressure on them.

“Over the last few years they have signed players ready for the level, or if not, just slightly above. They’re not signing players to sell in the future. They’re signing players to deliver now.

“They have Championship-ready players, players who have dropped down as well from the Premier League. So we know it’s a tough game, and we know that they’ll be tough opposition, but at the same point we should be desperate to perform at home.”
