Wrexham and Birmingham City have become rivals in the media, with their fixture being coined as the ‘Hollywood Derby’.

While there is no history of rivalry between these two clubs until the last few seasons, with both clubs being owned by American celebrities, Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac are with the club that wears red, while Tom Brady is with the one that wears blue.

One football expert believes Birmingham are a ‘cynical’ copy of Wrexham, trying to capitalise on the docuseries to grow their American fan base.

However, the rivalry between the sets of owners appears to be a friendly one as they look to achieve success with their respective teams and to grow them as much as possible.

This friendliness was once again shown ahead of their Championship clash in which they drew 1-1 on Friday night.

Tom Wagner bought everyone a pint in The Turf pub before Birmingham City and Wrexham’s clash

Tom Wagner made headlines for his actions in the stands as Wrexham fans found his half time antics hilarious as he attempted to gee up the away crowd to help spur Birmingham back into the game.

It seemed to have an impact, as the Blues were level less than a minute into the second half, and the result would remain that way as they shared the points.

However, before the game Wagner would buy everyone in The Turf pub a pint, as one fan detailed to The Leader.

They said: “This is the second year running he has put our beers on his tab; you’d never see that happen in the Premier League!

“You can see that Birmingham’s owners and Wrexham’s owners have so much respect for each other’s clubs, what a fantastic gesture; respect to Tom for that.”

Wrexham need to start turning draws into wins

A worrying Championship stat emerged for Wrexham after the clash with Birmingham City, one which Phil Parkinson needs to address rapidly if he wants to start climbing the table.

The Red Dragons are still yet to win at home in the second tier this campaign, and the longer the wait goes on, the more fans will start to worry, with the same fan, Paul Holland, explaining this after the Blues clash.

He said: “It’s a good point, but we need to start getting a few wins together now. The team looks a solid good team now, gelling well, and the defenders have been solid last few weeks.

“Fair play to them, well done Wrexham, roll on Stoke away now – up the town.”
