Wrexham are currently competing in their first second-tier campaign for 43 years, and it is their fifth season in total at this level of English football.
There was much excitement around the club as Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac invested in the Red Dragons for them to be able to achieve this after a historic three consecutive promotions from the National League to the Championship.
Phil Parkinson’s side have been on an impressive unbeaten run in the division across the last four fixtures, with their most recent draw against Birmingham City.
While a worrying Wrexham statistic has emerged following that match with the Blues, there are a lot of positives currently at the club.
However, should fans or those in the club be worried that they are yet to find a win at the Racecourse Ground, or that they are unable to secure wins, a look back to the club’s first-ever campaign in the second tier should fill them with confidence.
Phil Parkinson will look to emulate Wrexham’s first-ever campaign in the second tier
The first aim of the Red Dragons this season was to remain in the Championship; however, these ambitions were altered slightly due to the sizeable investment made this summer.
Wrexham spent £33 million on signings with the hope they would make them competitive in the division, and it has seemingly had the desired effect.
If Phil Parkinson was to compare their start to the first-ever campaign for the club in the second tier, then he would be incredibly pleased.
It was the exact same start to the season, as they won two and drew four of their opening nine fixtures in 1978, an identical record to this campaign with the exact same goal difference.
The only difference was that Wrexham were placed 15th in the division in 1978, while they currently occupy 18th in the Championship.
A finish of 15th in that first-ever campaign was enough to keep them in the division, a result that Parkinson and their fans would be delighted with for the current season.
It would allow them to build for the next season, as they could then aim to work towards promotion to the Premier League.

Premier League promotion is still possible this campaign
For the more optimistic within the Wrexham fanbase, they may believe they can climb to the Premier League this season, and they may look at the supercomputer prediction about their promotion from the Championship.
There are 46 games across the division, and so far, only nine have been played, so there is still a long way to go in the season.

QPR currently occupy sixth in the second tier with a points tally of 15, while the Red Dragons are only five points behind that with 10.
So, there is a possibility they could still pose a threat to the play-offs if they can find a way to turn draws into victories on a more regular basis.
