Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have endeared themselves to the Wrexham faithful over the years.

Nearly four years on from when they purchased the club, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have proven a real gift to Wrexham.

Despite their clearly limited knowledge of football, as highlighted in the ‘Welcome to Wrexham‘ documentary, the Hollywood duo have proven themselves as great owners.

McElhenney and Reynolds have made a number of wise appointments behind the scenes, most notably Shaun Harvey.

On the field, meanwhile, the decision to sack Dean Keates and install Phil Parkinson into the dugout at the Racecourse has proven a stroke of genius.

Parkinson has secured back-to-back promotions with the Red Dragons and remains in with a great chance of booking a place in the Championship for the 2025/26 season.

However, the American actors may now be about to garner the ire of the Wrexham supporters.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds Wrexham mission statement

Rob and Ryan purchased the club from the Supporters Trust in February 2021.

When attempting to gain ownership, the pair presented a mission statement, which has since been deleted from the Wrexham website but was covered by TNT Sports and reads:

1. To protect the heritage that has made Wrexham AFC and the Racecourse Ground such a special place to watch football for the last 156 years.

2. To reinforce the values, traditions and legacy of this community. We understand and respect the intense loyalty and love for this club and how it’s woven into the fabric of the town and its supporters.

3. To use our resources to grow the exposure of the club. Of course, this would be in concert with protecting the heart and spirit of a community-led historical icon. But why can’t the third oldest club in the world have a global appeal?

4. To reward the faith of the supporters who have stood by Wrexham AFC through its history by putting everything we have towards what all fans want most for their club, and that is to… WIN, WIN, WIN. Everything we do will be informed by these four principles and never one without the other. We want to be part of Wrexham’s story, not drag the club into ours.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds urged to break Wrexham promise

Now though, as per Wales Online, the duo have been encouraged to break their promise to Wrexham fans by journalist Nathan Salt.

Salt posed the idea that Wrexham could change their badge, which goes against what Rob and Ryan promised prior to purchasing the club.

He said: “I know in the mission statement that Rob and Ryan said they wouldn’t move Wrexham out of the stadium and they wouldn’t rebrand, which was a hard promise.

“But it got me thinking, what would it take for people to be open to the conversation of changing the crest?”

“I would have to be honest and say that there are rebrands I’ve seen that look nice.

“For example, I think Bristol City’s badge now is better than before. It looks cleaner.

“Aston Villa is another good example. Liverpool changed, and they got rid of everything but the liver bird.”

Wrexham’s current badge features a football held by two red dragons, a national symbol of Wales, with the club’s name and founding date below it.
