Wrexham can look forward to Championship football next season after sealing promotion with a victory over Charlton Athletic.

Wrexham players will be looking for yet another trip to Las Vegas after winning promotion to the Championship on Saturday.

The stage was set hours before Wrexham faced Charlton Athletic, as Wycombe Wanderers lost to Leyton Orient.

A win would take Wrexham up and Phil Parkinson’s side turned in one of the performances of the season.

Even Charlton fans were impressed with Wrexham as Ollie Rathbone and Sam Smith secured a 2-0 lead in the first half.

Smith added number three late on, sealing the victory and sparking wild celebrations from fans, players and staff on the pitch.

Three promotions in a row seals this Wrexham side’s place in the history books, leaving fans to start preparing for life in the second tier.

Rob McElhenney sends message after Wrexham promotion

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds brought Wrexham in 2021 and have put the club on a truly unbelievable path.

After so many years of languishing in the National League, Wrexham are now just one more promotion away from the Premier League.

The last few years have been a dream come true, leaving McElhenney simply blown away.

McElhenney believes there is more to come for Wrexham, suggesting this journey isn’t even nearly done just yet.

McElhenney also admitted a headache after Saturday’s win, suggesting the celebrations went long into the night.

The dust is settling on Wrexham’s latest promotion, and McElhenney has returned with another message to fans.

Posting on X, McElhenney suggested that he has ‘the greatest job in sports’ thanks to his role at Wrexham.

McElhenney posted a photo of himself watching on at the STōK Cae Ras, adding that he just has to be ‘eternally grateful’ for the journey at Wrexham.

McElhenney added that he is ‘blessed’ to have met so many great people in his role at Wrexham, no doubt encompassing players, staff and die-hard supporters.

James McClean hails Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds

McElhenney loves Wrexham and that feeling is certainly reciprocated, not just from fans, but also players.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Wrexham captain James McClean praised McElhenney and Reynolds for delivering on their goals.

McClean highlighted that some owners don’t always live up to their promises, but McElhenney and Reynolds have delivered on every level.

McClean added that the Hollywood duo ‘deserve all of the credit in the world’ as Wrexham celebrate another promotion.

“You see it with so many owners, they come in and promise you the world and they don’t deliver,” said McClean.

“They’ve (Reynolds and McElhenney) delivered. They deserve all of the credit in the world tonight,” he added.

The feeling around Wrexham is pretty rare in football; owners, players and fans all on board for the ride and enjoying success together.

Many rival fans may criticise Wrexham’s rise, but it will largely come from a sense of jealousy.

So many clubs up and down the EFL would love to have McElhenney and Reynolds driving their clubs forward, and there is no sign of this Wrexham journey slowing down.
