Wrexham took another giant step toward promotion on Saturday without even kicking a ball.
Wrexham began April 26 knowing they were potentially just 90 minutes of football away from making it into the Championship.
For the Red Dragons to win promotion on Saturday, though, two things had to happen.
Firstly, after Wycombe Wanderers lost to Charlton Athletic on Monday, they slipped two points behind going into the weekend’s League One games.
As a result, the Chairboys had to win their fixture to remain in with a real chance of finishing second.
However, when all was said and done, Wycombe lost to Leyton Orient by one goal to nil.

Wrexham chief Humphrey Ker reacts to Wycombe defeat
It meant that, should Wrexham beat Charlton in the day’s late kick-off, they would be promoted to the second tier.
It was a massive result for the Red Dragons and should have taken some of the pressure off the players prior to their own fixture getting underway.
After seeing Wycombe come up short, meanwhile, Wrexham chief Humphrey Ker issued his reaction on X/Twitter.
It was short and sweet from Ker, who simply wrote: “Now, let’s have fun.”

What happens if Wrexham lose to Charlton Athletic
While it was a giant step in the right direction for the Welsh outfit, they still had work to do of their own on Saturday.
Wrexham are predicted to beat Charlton, which would obviously see them go up in second place.
A draw at the Racecourse would leave Wycombe three points adrift with just one worse goal difference, meaning Phil Parkinson’s side would still need to win or draw their final game.
A loss, meanwhile, will see Wrexham needing to take all three points against Lincoln City on May 3 to guarantee promotion.
