Rob McElhenney has big plans for Wrexham, which he shared with Prince William in 2024.

Along with fellow Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney purchased Wrexham in February 2021.

Four years on from the deal being completed, the North American duo have proven to be a huge asset to the club and town.

Wrexham are now one of the most well-known teams in world football thanks to the success of the ‘Welcome to Wrexham‘ documentary on Disney +.

Meanwhile, after a 15-year stint in the National League, the Red Dragons finally won promotion out of the fifth tier in 2022/23.

When they first purchased the club, it was clear Rob and Ryan were trying to build a team that could compete at a League One level.

Wrexham are now doing exactly that and are currently sat third in the division going into the latest round of games.

Rob McElhenney told Prince William he wants Wrexham to win Premier League

However, McElhenney clearly has much higher ambitions for the team, which he shared with Prince William back in 2024.

Since their new owners took charge, Wrexham have welcomed countless A-list celebrities to the Racecourse Ground.

Among the big names to have visited in recent years is Prince William, whose visit was documented on ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.

Prince William appeared in Season 3, Episode 6 of the documentary, which was first aired on May 30th, 2024.

When speaking to Prince William, Rob revealed what his and Ryan’s ‘ultimate goal’ for Wrexham is.

He said: “Our ultimate goal is to build a sustainable model that will allow us to not only get to the Premier League, but sustain in the Premier League and eventually win the Premier League and be in the Champions League.”

How many seasons will it take for Wrexham to win the Premier League

In his conversation with Prince William, McElhenney stated he wants Wrexham to win the Premier League and play in the Champions League.

Should they end up winning promotion from League One this term, which is still on the cards, the Red Dragons would still need at least another three seasons to achieve the goal – that is if they get promoted again in 2025/26 and then somehow win the Premier League in 2026/27 before then qualifying for 2027/28 Champions League campaign.

In reality, however, there’s a very good chance that Rob’s ultimate goal for Wrexham may never come to fruition.

Promotion to the top flight isn’t out of the question, and Ipswich Town were able to wing back-to-back promotions to reach the Premier League this season.

But beating the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool to the title given the history and money they have is a very different ball game.
