Wrexham signed Ryan Longman during the 2025 winter transfer window from Championship outfit, Hull City.

The Red Dragons made three additions to their squad in the most recent January window, one of which was Ryan Longman.

Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez’s arrivals were not at all surprising – though they are major coups – as Wrexham clearly needed to improve their striker department if they are to have a proper chance of winning automatic promotion.

The signing of the former Hull City ace was somewhat odd at the time though, with most fans left wondering where Longman would play for Wrexham.

He’s a natural winger – a position Phil Parkinson does not use – and though he can play as a centre-forward, didn’t seem like an upgrade on any of the club’s current options in that role.

However, it’s fair to say that the addition of Longman has proven to be a fantastic bit of business from Wrexham.

Why Ryan Longman has joined Wrexham

He’s only been at the Racecourse Ground for a few weeks but has been instrumental in their last two victories.

Operating as a right-wing-back, he provided an assist as Wrexham beat Crawley Town 2-1 in their last league fixture.

More recently, Longman was superb versus Port Vale, assisting two goals in the 4-1 victory.

Now, as per Leader Live, the defender has revealed what he has come to Wrexham to do while also, adding he’s hopeful goals will come soon.

He said: “There’s a lot more for me to show as well but obviously I was buzzing to get the assist against Crawley and to get another two against Port Vale.”

“That is what I have come here to do. Get the assists and get the goals,” said Longman, who has also played for Millwall and AFC Wimbledon.

“Hopefully the goal will come soon as well. But if I keep getting the assists and we keep winning then everyone is happy.”

Ryan Longman opens up on life at Wrexham

Smith and Rodriguez looked like to be the most important signings from January but Longman has already proven what a key player he could be in the promotion race.

The wing-back has managed to notch three assists in just 102 minutes of football for Wrexham so far and could easily become a regular starter if that form keeps up.

On life at the club so far, he said in the same interview: “It’s been brilliant. Everyone – the staff and fans – has been so supportive and so welcoming to me since coming to this club. I’m really enjoying it here.

“A few things happened at Hull before I came here, and I had a little injury, but that happens in football and you can’t control everything unfortunately.

“The move happened and it was a great time for me to come here. I’m really looking forward to the games coming up.”

Wrexham face Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday and Longman is likely to start in one of the wing-back roles.
