Wrexham were able to make history in 2024/25 when they won promotion out of League One.
After back-to-back promotions from the National League to the third tier, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham were looking to make history in the most recent campaign.
Birmingham City ran away with the League One title, with the Red Dragons, Wycombe Wanderers, and Charlton Athletic all pushing for that final automatic spot.
In the end, Wrexham won promotion on April 26 when they beat the aforementioned Charlton 3-0.
Earlier that month, the Welsh outfit faced off with Burton Albion, and co-owner Reynolds paid a visit.

What Ryan Reynolds said to Wrexham players before Burton
Wrexham were second in the table at the time but a 2-2 draw with Cambridge United the gameweek prior meant Wycombe could still catch them.
As a result, it was imperative Phil Parkinson’s men got one over on a Burton team who struggled across much of 2024/25.
Prior to the fixture, Reynolds entered the Wrexham dressing room and spoke to the players.
This was captured for the Welcome to Wrexham documentary and has now been shared in Season 4 Episode 7, which was released on June 20 in the UK.
After entering the dressing room, Reynolds addressed the players and said: “Isn’t it ——- crazy though how this ——- club every year ends up in this moment and every year we find a way.
“And I would like to say a prayer to the football gods, let’s just all hold hands around this thing and let’s have one ‘let’s ——- go’. One, two, three, let’s ——- go.”

Former Wrexham player leaving Burton Albion
The 2024/25 season saw three Wrexham players swap the Racecourse for Burton.
James Jones, Anthony Forde, and striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson all left the club over the winter to link up with the Brewers.
Forde came off the bench in the aforementioned Burton fixture, which Wrexham won 3-0.
Bodvarsson missed that match but still had a productive spell with Burton, scoring five and assisting one in 15 appearances.
However, it’s now been confirmed that the former Wrexham centre-forward is leaving the League One outfit when his contract expires at the end of June.
