Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds should be overjoyed to see his boyhood MLS team making history and doing better than Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.

Reynolds dipped his toe in the footballing world back in 2021 when, along with Rob Mac, he became the co-owner of Wrexham.

The Canadian has since invested in two more football clubs and is now a big name in the sport.

However, long before he ever had anything to do with the English game, Reynolds was visiting the stadium of MLS outfit Vancouver Whitecaps.

Vancouver Whitecaps have more points than Inter Miami in 2025 MLS season

Reynolds watched Wrexham face Vancouver Whitecaps during a 2024 pre-season friendly, which the Welsh outfit won 4-1.

After that fixture, the Hollywood actor revealed he visited BC Place many times as a child.

He said: “Wrexham playing the Vancouver Whitecaps was one of those pinch-me moments that as long as I live, will never forget.

“BC Place is the stadium I went to as a kid, I’ve been to BC Place maybe 100 times in my life and I’ve always sat way up in the nosebleeds with my dad and here I am, I’m in BC Place with my daughter, I’m in the owners’ box.”

Now, in 2025, Vancouver Whitecaps have made personal history by securing a record-high 63 points in 33 matches in the Eastern Conference. Their previous record was 53 in 2015.

They sit top of their table going into the latest round of fixtures, while Philadelphia Union are the only club across both conferences to have notched more points (66).

Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami are third in the Western division with one point less than Vancouver.

Ryan Reynolds was linked with Vancouver Whitecaps

Just like in the United Kingdom, celebrity investment in the MLS has become more common in recent years.

Manchester United legend David Beckham is one of the primary owners of Messi’s Inter Miami.

Meanwhile, Reynolds was linked with a Vancouver Whitecaps takeover earlier this year.

A fee of £300m was reported at the time, but there has been no further update on a potential move from the actor since.
