Wrexham continue to go from strength to strength under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds with fans dreaming of Championship football.

Wrexham celebrated 160 years as a football club on Tuesday night.

Marking that milestone with a win over Huddersfield Town would have been simply perfect, but it just wasn’t to be.

Wrexham couldn’t find the breakthrough and could only draw 0-0 with the Terriers, dropping points at the STōK Cae Ras for the first time this season.

Ryan Reynolds may have also been desperate for a win, just as an extra bonus around his birthday.

Reynolds turned 48 on Wednesday but Wrexham weren’t able to mark a double celebration this week with a victory.

Ryan Reynolds message to Rob McElhenney

Wrexham fans will know all too well that Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds like to pull pranks on each other for their birthdays.

Welcome to Wrexham’ has previously shown the extent of their tomfoolery.

Reynolds dedicated a urinal to McElhenney, McElhenney flew a ‘Ryan Reynolds Memorial Blimp’ in Wrexham, Reynolds formed a song to explain how to pronounce McElhenney’s name… this has been going on for a while now.

This year, McElhenney decided to tone down the shenanigans and team up with Best Friends, an animal welfare organisation in the United States.

McElhenney named a whole host of animals after Reynolds, but vowed to match any donation to Best Friends until the end of October, up to $25,000.

Reynolds responded by actually heaping praise on McElhenney, praising his Wrexham co-chairman as a simply ‘wonderful’ person.

“I was expecting some sort of assault on decency or thinly veiled attack on Canada. Instead, I got one of the greatest gifts of my life in knowing Rob McElhenney. He is as wonderful and singular as you’d imagine and I’m the luckiest guy on earth,” said.

Reynolds also vowed to tone down his response, claiming that he was planning an ‘sinvoluntary, forced and rapid relocation system’ on McElhenney – not an ‘abduction’.

More success to come for McElhenney and Reynolds

McElhenney and Reynolds have certainly enjoyed their time at Wrexham.

Phil Parkinson guided the club to two successive promotions and a third isn’t out of the question.

Wrexham sit second in League One ahead of a trip to Charlton Athletic this weekend.

The Addicks are pushing a ‘Welcome to London’ campaign ahead of Wrexham’s arrival, summing up the success of Wrexham’s documentary series.

Wrexham fans are loving this project and there is surely more success to come as Wrexham show no signs of slowing down.

McElhenney and Reynolds have become heroes in Wrexham and long may that continue – just like their birthday pranks.
