Wrexham return to action on Tuesday night as Phil Parkinson leads his side out against Crewe Alexandra in the EFL Trophy.

Wrexham secured a huge win on Saturday afternoon, beating Burton Albion 1-0 away from home.

That result leaves Wrexham level on points with Wycombe Wanderers at the top of League One ahead of the busy festive period.

Sure, there are problems in the Wrexham ranks; Arthur Okonkwo is injured, Callum Burton might be out for the season and Parkinson is trying to convince the EFL to let him sign another goalkeeper.

All things considered though, Wrexham are going strong in League One and may well fulfil Ryan Reynolds’ hope for the season.

Ryan Reynolds on his Wrexham tradition

Reynolds wants another promotion this season and he made that clear before the League Two campaign was even done and dusted.

The Hollywood star wants more and more success for Wrexham and Phil Parkinson has his side competing at the top end of the table.

Reynolds has now been speaking at the Obama Foundation 2024 Democracy Forum and admitted that he has a tradition every time he visits the STōK Cae Ras.

Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are very busy in the United States and few Wrexham fans will be unhappy with them not visiting regularly.

That does make their rare appearances even more special though and Reynolds has one thing he does every time he visits.

Reynolds admitted that he snatches a piece of the grass from the hallowed STōK Cae Ras pitch and takes it home to America with him.

Reynolds joked about fearing having the grass confiscated, but he considers the STōK Cae Ras to be a force for good and place where everybody can unite behind a common goal.

“Wales is no different and where Wrexham is, Northern Wales has a political divide, right wing and left wing and I’m this and you’re that. The sports aspect of it is that when they walk into the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham, that stuff just goes away, and we’re all rooting and enjoying and loving this moment,” said Reynolds.

“Every time I go there, I grab a piece of grass and shove it in my pocket. I’m always scared when I’m flying back because they’ll get you if you take that grass, but I love that connection,” he added.

Wrexham continue to grow in America

The impact of McElhenney and Reynolds is just extraordinary with Wrexham now having genuine dreams of reaching the Championship in the near future.

Not only are Wrexham thriving on the pitch, but interest is still being driven off the pitch.

Wrexham’s win over Barnsley last week was shown on the incredible dome screen at Cosm in Los Angeles.

McElhenney and Danny DeVito celebrated together as Wrexham claimed the win with American fans able to watch as if they were inside the STōK Cae Ras.

McElhenney wants to have a real impact in America ahead of the 2026 World Cup with his role at Wrexham increasing interest in League One action.

Some thought that McElhenney and Reynolds would get bored the Wrexham project after their 2021 takeover.

We are approaching four years of this endeavour and both McElhenney and Reynolds seem just as invested as ever, meaning the Wrexham rise could continue for a while yet.
