Wrexham are poised for another big summer after the Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds project moved a step closer to the Premier League.

Wrexham’s next league fixture will be in the Championship.

That sentence is a ‘pinch me’ moment for some Wrexham fans, who still can’t believe what they are witnessing.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ takeover has catapulted the club into the mainstream – and towards the Premier League.

Wrexham’s recent 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic secured a third straight promotion, with Phil Parkinson driving the club up through the leagues in rapid fashion.

Now preparing for life in the second tier, McElhenney and Reynolds will be keen to keep moving forward at pace after ending the League One campaign in second place.

Ryan Reynolds on Shaun Harvey

Reports suggest Wrexham are planning to splash the cash this summer, a clear signal that the club will not just be happy to make up the numbers in the Championship.

Reynolds has now opened up on how Shaun Harvey had to give some advice to both him and McElhenney.

We know the Hollywood duo are so nice to everybody they meet, but Harvey was seemingly concerned about them being a little too nice.

Speaking to the Fearless In Devotion podcast, as quoted by the Daily Star, Reynolds vowed to always wish the best for former Wrexham players.

That extended to wishing Wycombe Wanderers players ‘good luck’ ahead of facing Wrexham on the first day of the League One season.

Harvey told McElhenney and Reynolds to stop doing that, essentially trying to usher them into being a touch more ‘horrible’ to opponents.

“We love our old players and wish them the best for whoever they play for,” said Reynolds.

“At this season’s first home match, Shaun Harvey came running over to Rob and I to tell us to stop wishing the away team ‘good luck.’ I was there, oh, just be horrible. That’s football – oh yeah, I get it now,” he added.

Reynolds and McElhenney always go the extra mile

We may not see Reynolds and McElhenney around Wrexham all that often, but they go the extra mile on a personal level.

Sam Smith spoke to McElhenney and Reynolds upon signing for Wrexham, admitting to having a ‘surreal’ conversation with the pair.

Some club owners would not get that involved, but McElhenney and Reynolds take it upon themselves to show the personal touch.

McElhenney hailed James Jones as he left Wrexham, sending an emotional message as he departed for Burton Albion in January.

We even saw McElhenney admit he wanted Notts County to go up through the National League play-offs in 2023, having enjoyed such a fierce battle for automatic promotion.

Harvey would much prefer that their well-wishes were reserved for Wrexham players, but they seemingly just can’t help themselves with their affable approach to football ownership.
