Wrexham’s pre-season got underway on Friday, with the Dragons playing Melbourne Victory and coming out on top with a convincing 3-0 win.
Phil Parkinson fielded a couple of sides for the 3-0 win over Melbourne Victory: one playing the first half and the other playing the second, giving the Wrexham players some all-important minutes as they gear up for the new Championship campaign.
Thomas O’Connor scored the first goal of three. Then after the break, Wrexham’s new signing Ryan Hardie got himself on the scoresheet, with George Evans adding a third and sealing a seemingly routine win against Melbourne.
The game was also a first glimpse at Wrexham’s new home kit for 2025/26. The jersey has split opinion online, though on the whole, fans seem to like it, and next season, it might matter very little whether the fans like the kit, if they see more wins like the one in Melbourne.

Wrexham fans dress up as Deadpool in ode to Ryan Reynolds
Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds is known around the world: in large part for his acting, but he’s becoming more and more known for being the co-owner of Wrexham along with fellow Hollywood A-lister Rob Mac. And the Wrexham fans had a brilliant gesture for Reynolds in Melbourne.
The club’s official X account posted a picture of those sat in the Wrexham end, with many dressed up as Reynolds’ famous character Deadpool, in what looked like a sold-out Wrexham section. Though ticket sales for Wrexham against Melbourne Victory were slow, and large parts of the stadium were empty.
Nonetheless, it was a good win and no doubt it was a good day out for those supporting Wrexham, and for any who made the long-haul trip from Wales to support the players as they prepare themselves for a gruelling 2025/26 campaign.
Who else do Wrexham play on their Australian tour?
Wrexham have a couple more games to play before they return to Wales. The next is against Sydney FC on the 15th, before then heading to New Zealand for a game against Wellington Phoenix on the 19th.
Expect Parkinson to want a couple more friendlies back in the UK before his side get underway in the Championship, before Wrexham play Southampton in their opening game of the season in what will be a really tough encounter.
Also, expect to see some new signings very soon. Speaking from Australia, Parkinson said he’s in talks with new signings and suggested that we could even see the club sign some new players whilst they’re down under.
The players meanwhile will be focused on getting minutes in the tank, and putting together some decent results before they go up against a Saints side who’ll be tipped to win promotion from the Championship next season.
