Wrexham signed Ryan Hardie on Monday, paying a reduced fee to Plymouth Argyle.

Thanks to a clause in his contract, Wrexham landed Ryan Hardie for just £700,000.

It’s the earliest signing the Red Dragons have made since Phil Parkinson took charge back in 2021.

Hardie played as a 10 for Plymouth at times towards the end of last season, so he could well adopt the Jay Rodriguez role when he kicks off his career in Wales.

He’s expected to become the club’s new starting striker alongside fellow big-money addition, Sam Smith.

Now, an insight into how Plymouth Argyle plans to replace the Wrexham man has been shared.

Plymouth eye Ryan Hardie replacement after Wrexham transfer

Wrexham are set to compete in the Championship this coming season, doing so for the first time since the competition was rebranded.

They will face their toughest challenge yet and could well be battling towards the bottom end of the table.

On that front, Hardie’s transfer could see one Championship club lose a player to the Greens in the coming months.

Journalist Darren Witcoop has reported this week, after praising Wrexham’s capture of Hardie, that Plymouth already have replacement plans.

And top of their list is Portsmouth striker Christian Saydee. He wrote: “Ryan Hardie to Wrexham for £700,000 is a very good pick up. Fee reduced as part of a relegation clause. Portsmouth striker Christian Saydee tops Plymouth’s list as a replacement.”

Where will Wrexham finish in the Championship

It’s still far too early to really predict exactly how Wrexham will fare in their first Championship season.

There’s still so much of the summer transfer window to go and there are expected to be a lot more changes at the Racecourse Ground.

Should Wrexham build a competitive squad with another five or so proven signings at this level, they should avoid relegation.

Meanwhile, one expert said that Wrexham will aim for 14th in the Championship, which, with some good signings, is certainly achievable.
