Wrexham are preparing for life in the Championship, with the 2025 summer transfer window now just weeks away from opening.

The summer transfer window dates have been confirmed by the EFL, with the window officially opening on June 1 before closing for a few days and then reopening from the 16th of the month to September 1.

While Wrexham cannot officially sign any players until next month, a host of names are already being linked.

We shared this week that, as well as forward Callum Robinson, who hit 12 goals in the Championship across 2024/25, the Red Dragons are aware of Cardiff City duo Ollie Tanner and Isaak Davies.

Meanwhile, manager Phil Parkinson suggested he wants to explore free agents after having much success in previous seasons.

Now, comments that have emerged from Shaun Harvey further reaffirm the club will be looking at out-of-contract stars.

Shaun Harvey says Wrexham could sign free agents first

Harvey recently took part in an event with the Fearless In Devotion podcast.

During the fan-attended event, Harvey was asked about transfer dealings, going on to discuss free agents.

When doing so, he said that supporters shouldn’t be surprised if the first signings made by the club in the summer are players who are out of contract.

The reason for that, he explains, is that ‘they represent the best value’.

He said: “So in those circumstances, there’s lists no doubt prepared of players in each position, no doubt for different divisions, that we know are coming out of contract at the end of this season that will be of interest to us.

“So do not be surprised if the first signings you see, whether we are promoted or we’re not, are players who are coming who are out of contract. And the reason for that is that they represent the best value.”

Wrexham interested in soon-to-be free agents

Players are generally out of contract with teams in England on June 30 of each year, and the Dragons have already been linked with a couple of stars whose deals are expiring.

Wrexham are interested in Harry Darling from Swansea, but are thought to be facing competition from League One rivals Birmingham City for his signature.

Elsewhere, there is interest in Manchester United’s Jack Kingdon, though Leicester City, Derby County, and Millwall are also looking at the young defender.

We have also taken a look at the highest value free agents who are already without a club.
