Wrexham’s assistant manager Steve Parkin has suggested Elliot Lee was rested against Sutton United.

Elliot Lee was rested for Tuesday’s dramatic 2-1 win over Sutton United, despite being needed in the end.

As fixtures continue to stack up, Wrexham have had to rotate smartly and against lowly Sutton United, it seemed the perfect opportunity.

Therefore, Lee was left on the bench, with Saturday’s showdown with Notts County on the mind.

However, Lee came off the bench to grab the headlines, scoring the winner in the 89th minute which Ryan Reynolds praised with a comedic message post-game.

Now Steve Parkin has explained the reasons for Lee not starting…

Parkin on why Lee didn’t start

Speaking with The Leader, Parkin said: “The manager felt that Elliot had played every minute of every game practically and could do with a little breather,

“We thought he looked a little bit tired at Bradford, hence Jordan Davies coming in.

“It was more the fact that we were being a bit protective to him and maybe picking up any kind of injury, and keep him ready for the weekend.”

Despite being rested, Lee still managed to grab the headlines and win Wrexham the game.

Huge game on Saturday

So after resting Lee worked out well in the end, he should be firing and ready to go on Saturday.

Saturday will see renewed hostilities with Notts County, following a legendary title race last season.

Both sides have taken to League Two action very well and are well placed to be involved in the playoffs at the very least.

This Saturday will be a huge indicator of where Wrexham are.
