Ollie Rathbone is yet to make an appearance for Wrexham this season, but he appears to be closing in on a return.

The midfielder, signed from Rotherham United last summer, was named Wrexham’s Player of the Season in 2024/25.

He had a slow start to the campaign, but once he got up to speed, the Englishman produced some sensational displays to help the Dragons clinch League One promotion.

Ollie Rathbone suffered an injury in pre-season, which has kept him out of action for the opening stages of the 2025/26 campaign.

Phil Parkinson gave an update on Rathbone earlier this week, and it looks like the star midfielder will be back soon.

Steven Fletcher and more react to Ollie Rathbone update

Wrexham face Derby County in a Championship fixture on Saturday afternoon.

The Dragons are aiming to win three games in a row for the first time this season after victories over Norwich City and Reading.

Now, ahead of the weekend’s action, Wrexham have shared a photo of Rathbone in training with the caption, ‘Great to see you out there, Ollie.’

The post has prompted excitement from fans and several players, including ex-star Steven Fletcher.

Fletcher took to the comments section to post four love-heart eye emojis.

Left-back Jacob Mendy reacted as well, while Sam Smith commented heart-eyes, fire and raised hands emojis.

Players left out of Wrexham Championship squad

Due to his injury, Rathbone was left out of Wrexham’s Championship squad, which was confirmed after the summer transfer window slammed shut.

There is still one place available for a player to be added in the first half of the campaign.

Parkinson said he needs Rathbone back, meaning he will be taking the final spot.

As a result, Jay Rodriguez, Danny Ward, and Andy Cannon will not be able to feature until January 1, 2026, when the winter window opens and every player is eligible for selection in the Championship.
