Supercomputer gives Wrexham unwelcome Championship prediction, fans should be worried

Wrexham have won promotion to the Championship and now look set for their toughest challenge yet under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

The Red Dragons beat Charlton Athletic 3-0 on April 26 to secure second place in League One.

Wrexham’s historic promotion run means they are now competing in the second tier for the first time since the 1980s.

A £40m boost is expected to come the Welsh outfit’s way now that they are in the Championship.

Part of that figure will be made up by a sizeable fee from TV revenue Wrexham are set to net, including from their opening game of 2025/26 against the recently relegated Southampton.

The Saints are one of several tough teams Phil Parkinson and Co. will be facing off with in the early stages of the coming season.

Supercomputer predicts Wrexham’s Championship fixtures

After taking on Southampton, two more Wrexham games will be on TV in the following weeks, including their first-ever league clash against West Bromwich Albion.

The Baggies, like the South Coast, are a top side and could prove a stern test for the Reds.

Ahead of the new season getting underway, Opta have ranked every team set to compete in the Championship next term by how difficult their first nine fixtures are.

And their table does not make for welcome reading, with Wrexham having the joint-fifth hardest start to the Championship season with a fixture difficulty rating of 81.4.

Wrexham Championship fixtures and last season’s league position

Wrexham are set to face two of the three recently relegated teams in the early stages of 2025/26.

They will also clash with several teams who were eyeing play-off spots in the previous campaign.

Elsewhere, a meeting with League One rivals Birmingham City is on the cards for the Dragons.

On paper, a struggling Sheffield Wednesday with a three-window transfer embargo seems like the easiest fixture for Wrexham in the first few months of the season.
