Wrexham are set to benefit financially after a fresh update was provided by the EFL and the club this week.
The Red Dragons will play in the Championship during the 2025/26 season after securing second place in League One last term.
Wrexham posted record profits in their last set of accounts, and a further increase is expected now that they are competing in the second tier.
We have previously spoken to finance expert Adam Williams for an insight into how much money Wrexham could make in the 2025/26 season.
While it’s hard to predict exactly given their owners, commercial revenue could rise up to around the £20m mark. A £9m figure was predicted by Williams for matchday revenue as well.
Meanwhile, Wrexham are expected to take home over £9m from TV revenue in the Championship.
Williams told us: “The median broadcast income for Championship clubs last season was about £9m, and that figure accounts for the distortion caused by clubs receiving parachute payments, which are classified as broadcast income.
“In League One, it was less than £1.5m. That gives you an indication of how much extra income Wrexham can expect, plus those figures are from 2023-24, before the new TV deal came in, so the final amount should be higher by £1-2m too.”
More Wrexham games set for TV coverage
While the average revenue from TV money for Championship teams was around £9m, there is a chance the Dragons take home more than that.
As former player Ben Foster previously explained, clubs earn more money the more they are selected for TV coverage.
He said in May: “The thing with the TV money is the more you’re on telly, the more you earn, and Wrexham, you know for a fact, will be on telly next season more than any other Championship team.”
It was already confirmed that Wrexham vs Southampton on the opening weekend of the season was set to be broadcast on Sky Sports.
Now, it has been shared by the club and the EFL that two more of the Dragons’ upcoming matches have also been selected for TV coverage, which, as Foster pointed out, will earn the club more money.
Wrexham’s announcement read: “Our matches at home to West Bromwich Albion on August 16 and Derby County on September 27 will both kick off at 12:30pm and be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
“Our first home game back in the EFL Championship will be on Sky Sports Football and the match against Derby on Sky Sports+”.
Wrexham first to be broadcast on Sky
After spending many years in the National League, Wrexham are set to face a number of teams in the league for the first time ever.
And their aforementioned clash with West Brom will be a historic moment for both teams.
Wrexham lost 1-0 to the Baggies in the FA Cup in their first meeting all the way back in 1930.
Their second and only other fixture came in 1971 in the Watney Cup and saw the Welsh side emerge with a 2-1 win, meaning their game in August will be their first league clash.
