Wrexham announced their latest contract extension on Thursday as Tom O’Connor committed his future to the club for three more years however, there are still many whose deals expire in 2025.
The positivity surrounding Wrexham at the moment is unbelievable as they prepare for a campaign in League One.
That is being heightened by the work they’ve done in the transfer market and in tying down their key assets to new contracts.
Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, centre-back Lewis Brunt and central midfielder George Dobson have all arrived at the Racecourse Ground, while first-team stars Max Cleworth, George Evans and Tom O’Connor have all been given new contracts.
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have acknowledged the need to invest in the club’s future this summer but there are plenty of more decisions for the Hollywood owners to make.
Wrexham have 14 players out of contract in 2025
Wrexham have fast-tracked their way into League One by thinking of the present and not the future but that has left them with many players with just a year left on their contracts.
Wrexham players out of contract in 2025
James McClean
Andy Cannon
Mark Howard
Jacob Mendy
Steven Fletcher
Anthony Forde
Ollie Palmer
Jack Marriott
Ryan Barnett
Jordan Davies
James Jones
Billy Waters
Sam Dalby
Liam Hall
For several on that list, the end of their time at Wrexham is approaching and that is just part and parcel of being promoted twice in a row. It has left Phil Parkinson with a plethora of players who are no longer good enough for the level they’re at.
If they don’t leave in this window, Jordan Davies, James Jones, Billy Waters, Sam Dalby, Anthony Forde and Liam Hall are all likely to depart next summer while the rest are up for debate.
The ‘class’ Steven Fletcher will turn 38 by the time next June rolls around and he’s increasingly likely to hang up his boots.
On the other hand, James McClean will be 36 but he’s arguably one of the fittest players in the Wrexham squad and that could see him earn another short-term deal, depending on how he performs in 2024/25.
Of the other players on that list, Andy Cannon and Ryan Barnett are must-keeps, with the former most deserving of a new contract.

Wrexham must hand a contract to Andy Cannon next
Wrexham have signed down some key players whose contracts were expiring in 2025, as Evans, Cleworth and O’Connor committed their future to the club.
All-action midfielder Cannon is deserving of that treatment after having an outstanding campaign in League Two. The 28-year-old credited Parkinson for his form towards the end of 2023/24 as the manager played him in an advanced role, and it worked a treat.
Cannon scored five and assisted two in his final eight matches as Wrexham sealed promotion to League One, while many felt the ‘sensational’ talent deserved to win the club’s Player of the Year Award.
Heading into the third tier, the former Hull City man is one of several in the squad who boasts significant League One experience with 162 appearances under his belt.
For that reason – and his qualities on the pitch – Wrexham can’t afford to let Cannon leave on a free transfer next summer.
