Welsh media react to Nathan Broadhead performance vs Belgium as Wrexham star scores in Wales defeat

Wrexham striker Nathan Broadhead was in action for Wales during their World Cup qualifier defeat against Belgium on Monday night.

Wales missed a huge chance to move up into 2nd place of their World Cup qualifier group on Monday night, and into the qualification positions for next summer.

Belgium top the group and came from behind to beat Craig Bellamy’s Wales 4-2 on Monday night with Leeds United’s Joe Rodon and Wrexham record signing Nathan Broadhead scoring for the Welsh.

Wrexham paid £10million to sign Broadhead from Ipswich Town during the summer. After missing the start of the season through injury, the 27-year-old has now scored three in his last five for club and country.

Welsh media positive about Nathan Broadhead despite Wales defeat

Before the Belgium game, Wales lost 3-0 against England in a friendly match. Kieffer Moore started the game but Broadhead was an unused substitute, and he started on the bench against Belgium as well with Moore also starting on the bench.

Both came on in the second half with Broadhead arriving in the 71st minute and Moore in the 86th. Broadhead took his goal well in the 89th minute but Belgium sealed their win with a Leandro Trossard goal just a minute after.

Wales Online gave Broadhead a 6/10 rating saying that he ‘took his goal well’, and Welsh football site clwbpeldroed.org also gave the Wrexham man a 6/10 score, writing: “A second-half substitution from Bellamy who made the most of his opportunity when it came, but his effort was ultimately undone by poor defending.”

The one positive for Phil Parkinson after Wales lose against Belgium

Wrexham have a handful of international players with Issa Kabore for Burkina Faso and of course Moore and Broadhead for Wales. Both Moore and Broadhead are key players for Phil Parkinson, Moore especially, and the Dragons boss might be quietly pleased that neither player played the full 90 against Belgium.

Moore has been carrying an ankle injury this season whilst Broadhead has already spent time on the sidelines. But both will hopefully return to North Wales fresh ahead of a Championship match against Stoke City this weekend.

The Potters currently sit in 5th place of the Championship table compared to Wrexham down in 18th. A win for Wrexham though could lift them right into the top half of the table depending on other results, whilst Stoke can move into the top two.
