Wrexham will play in front of a packed-out Racecourse stadium on Saturday, for what is their first Championship home game of the season.
Wrexham opened their 2025/26 Championship campaign against Southampton last weekend, and it looked like it would be a fairy-tale start for the fairy-tale club, who led right up until the 90th minute thanks to a Josh Windass debut goal from the penalty spot.
But the Saints showed their Premier League pedigree with two injury time winners as Southampton eventually beat Wrexham 2-1.
It was a hugely disappointing result for Phil Parkinson’s side after what was a mostly positive performance, but he takes a bit of momentum into the game against West Brom on Saturday after Wrexham came from behind to beat Hull City in the Carabao Cup in midweek.
On home soil, and boosted by the recent £10m arrival of Nathan Broadhead, Wrexham could put on a show and pick up their first points of the season against what is a strong West Brom side.

West Brom manager Ryan Mason wants to calm the Wrexham fans
It will be a sold-out Racecourse on Saturday. Expect the fans to be bouncing as they witness their team’s first second-tier game in more than 40 years. And speaking to the press ahead of the weekend, West Brom manager Ryan Mason had a lot to say about what he expects from the Wrexham crowd on Saturday. He’s expecting a lot of energy from the Dragons faithful.
And he’s expecting a tough test against what he calls a very good team in Wrexham. Mason said: “Calming the fans will be difficult because they’ll come to the game with lots of energy. The players will have lots of energy too. It’s going to be a big challenge, but it’s a challenge we’re looking forward to.
“We understand that there will be lots of energy generated within the stadium on Saturday, but the way to affect that is through our own performance and imposing ourselves on the game. That’s something we’re certainly going to try to do.
“We’re heading there to try and win. We understand it’s going to be a difficult match against a very good team who have had a lot of success. Wrexham are on an upwards trajectory and they’ve got a really good manager. The stadium will be full of energy, so it’s going to be an exciting match and one we need to prepare for as best as we can.”

How many fans are set to attend Wrexham vs West Brom?
More than 12,000 fans will be at the stadium on Saturday. It will be a sold-out home end, and West Brom have also sold out what is their first away trip of the season, and a trip to a new stadium for the bulk of fans.
At the start of the month, the Baggies announced that they have sold out their 1,293-seat allocation for the game against Wrexham. On their opening game of the campaign, West Brom beat Blackburn Rovers 1-0 before then losing against Derby County in the Carabao Cup in midweek.
It could be an evenly matched game on Saturday between two teams who may have play-off ambitions for the season. And we’ll no doubt find out a lot more about either side’s credentials this season after the result on Saturday.
