Wrexham are looking to strengthen this summer with a midfield signing linked to be arriving at the Racecourse.

With the 2024/25 League One season fast approaching, Wrexham have already been busy in the summer window with the arrivals of goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo and former Leicester City defender Lewis Brunt.

Red Dragons boss Phil Parkinson is keen to add further arrivals at the Racecourse as they prepare for the step up in quality this season.

Since the Hollywood takeover, owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have provided funds for recruitment, with an emphasis on bringing players who have quality and experience in higher divisions.

Wrexham have been linked with numerous midfield targets but it looks likely the club will move to sign free agent George Dobson.

Dobson has great experience in League One and would be brilliant business by the Red Dragons if they were to secure the deal.

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones hails Wrexham target George Dobson

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has previously lauded Dobson during their time together.

The former Luton Town manager was keen to keep his captain at the club, but the 26-year-old midfielder left Charlton at the end of the season.

Speaking to London News Online, Jones said: “We want George Dobson to stay, he’s been fantastic. We want to keep as many good players as we can and people who can affect a football game.

“He affects a football game. When you look at him, he creates chances for people. People think he’s an out-of-possession player because he runs about, slides in and wins it so people think he’s a defensive midfield player.”

George Dobson’s potential Wrexham arrival could lead to midfield departures

If Wrexham do sign Dobson it is likely a midfielder could be sold.

Parkinson has numerous midfield options with George Evans, Elliot Lee, and Andy Cannon being his preferred three last season. Jordan Davies and James Jones also provided depth in the squad.

With Dobson’s potential arrival, Parkinson may look to sell Davies or Jones. The former Sunderland boss will want to add League One quality to his side and may feel the former Charlton midfielder is an upgrade on the two midfielders.

Both Davies and Jones have been great players for Wrexham but with increasing competition for places, they may look to move on and seek regular football elsewhere.
