Wrexham have confirmed their Championship squad for the first half of the 2025/26 season.

As per EFL rules, Wrexham had to submit their Championship squad within 24 hours of the transfer window closing.

That deadline passed on September 2, and two days later, their squad for the forthcoming months has been confirmed.

Wrexham announced a 24-man squad, with a whole host of new faces included by Phil Parkinson.

The Dragons signed 13 players during the 2025 summer transfer window, all of whom made the cut.

However, a number of previously key players have been omitted.

Wrexham 24-man Championship squad

Wrexham were able to name as many as 25 players aged 21 or above, and goalkeepers had to be included.

The full list can be seen below:

Fans will notice that Danny Ward, Jay Rodriguez, Ollie Rathbone, Andy Cannon and Eoghan O’Connell have all been left out, and an explanation for some of those absences has been provided.

Ollie Rathbone isn’t in Wrexham 24-man Championship squad

As per Liam Randall, Rathbone, Cannon, Ward and Rodriguez are all left out after struggling with injury issues recently.

As for O’Connell, he has not had any confirmed injury issues, and it appears he has just simply been dropped.

The centre-back’s absence is not overly surprising, given that Wrexham have signed three players who can start ahead of him this summer.

Conor Coady, Dom Hyam and Callum Doyle have joined for a combined fee of somewhere around £9.7m (minus add-ons).

Two have already featured in the starting eleven this season, while Hyam did not arrive until deadline day.

Can Ollie Rathbone play for Wrexham this season?

When the winter transfer window opens in January, just like the summer, every player is eligible to play in the Championship.

Meanwhile, the EFL handbook offers guidance on what clubs must do to add players to their squad list outside of the window.

It states: “Changes outside of a Transfer Window. The League will only consider granting permission to make changes to the Squad List outside of a Transfer Window where:

“the Club’s current Squad List contains less than the maximum number of Players permitted to be included on the Squad List and the Club wishes to add an Out of Registration Player or another Player registered with the Club but not currently included on the Squad List, or;

“In other truly exceptional circumstances to include but not be limited to those set out in the note from EFL Player Admin found on the EFL Portal.”

It means Rathbone, who was a surprise exclusion, can still be added back into the team as Wrexham have left one space open.

The rest of the absent players could also be registered, but the midfielder, who was the Dragons’ Player of the Season last term, seems most likely to be added back when he recovers from injury.
